Why Child Evangelism is Not Child Abuse

Mathew Mount
The main reason why evangelism is not child abuse is that in order for any evangelism to be effective Christ has to have died for the person receiving evangelism. The point is that if someone received evangelism but Christ did not put that evangelism into effect, then that person would be unaffected by evangelism. The point is that instead of making evangelism into an act that man does and is solely responsible for, instead we should be looking at evangelism as an act that God is solely responsible for the administration of.

To call Child evangelism child abuse gives the problem that fundamentally it suggests that evangelism is a human way of changing a person's faith or destiny. If we as humans could effectively change our destiny then why would we not all realize the truth and go to heaven together? The reason why we don't all go to heaven is because God is clear that some people are not to receive the gospel while other people are to receive the gospel. The reception of the gospel however is not our choice to make in delivering but instead it's God's choice to make in how he's going to use it when it is delivered.

The point is that when Jesus talks about people that see but do not see and hear that do not hear what he is fundamentally talking about is the fact that some people are unable to receive the gospel. The inability to receive the gospel is not something that any of us have control over, but instead our ability to receive the gospel is something that God ultimately has control in. The point thus is that instead of putting the full burden of the effects of evangelism on the evangelist instead the burden of the effects of evangelism should be fully understood to rest on the shoulders of God.

The point is that we cannot assume that we are the people that cause others to be saved. God himself does whatever is necessary for a person to be saved or not to be saved. Overall, we should simply consider ourselves the tool that God uses to bring about salvation in the world.

Truly stated Matthew. As a longtime Sunday school teacher of 4 & 5th graders combined, I wrote a small booklet called "Teaching Children the Gospel, How to Raise Godly Children" and it is abuse by neglect that is the larger problem in society. I have had others tell me that this is what it is when I teach children about Jesus Christ. In actuality, it is the very best thing that we can do for them to secure their eternal future and present happiness in this world going its way to hell.
