Why Are Children Reading Less?

Sarah Rachel
It seems that over the past few decades teens and children are reading less due to television, the internet and other distractions such as a lack of interest. When kids are not interested in reading early in life they tend to never pick up the habit to read for enjoyment. With so many other distractions it can be hard for children to read which concerns some experts because they feel that the next generation will not be informed voters. Some people feel that this information is purely speculation because kids and teens are reading just not in the same way.

According to, Marcia Clemmitt, "some reading experts question whether current research really captures all the reading young children and teens do as text moves from printed newspapers and books to online sources." They still read and write when they surf the web especially when they continually send text messages and emails back and forth to peers. Now more people are also blogging and blogging all by itself is turning into a multi- mullion dollar business. Almost every company has a blog now and there are even more opportunities for freelance writers because of the web.
