Why Christmas Shopping Comes Earlier Each Holiday Season

Have You Bought All Your Holiday Gifts Yet?

It seems that each year, stores try to move Christmas shopping earlier then the year before. It isn't even Halloween yet, never mind Thanksgiving, and several department stores and large retailers have large displays of Christmas decorations that are right in front of your face as you walk in the door.

First to act Many stores are trying to be the first to act when it comes to selling Christmas decorations. If a competitor is selling Christmas decorations and their store is not, then there is a potential loss of sales for the business. By selling Christmas decorations and items earlier than other stores, they can have the potential to sell more products due to lack of competition. Selling more products means they will make more money, and the world revolves around money.

Is it really necessary? One question that I know many people ask is if it is really necessary for stores to begin selling Christmas items early in the year. The answer is a resounding yes. While I may personally dislike the fact that it happens, there is a valid reason other than the all mighty dollar. Many people do not save money, and Christmas is one of the few holidays that a majority of people celebrate, regardless of their religion. Seeing a Christmas display in October or November will let one plan their finances accordingly so that they are able to buy a special gift for all of their loved ones.

Many people do not see their extended family members on Christmas. Another reason to consider is that many families may congregate together on Thanksgiving rather than on Christmas, choosing for Christmas to be all about their immediate family. Having the Christmas shopping season start earlier means that there will be enough time to buy gifts for everyone in your family so that you will be able to give them when you see them at Thanksgiving. The alternative is to pay for costly shipping expenses.

Year round Christmas sales? With every year that passes, it seems that Christmas displays and shopping comes sooner and earlier. Do not be too surprised if next year you may be able to purchase their Christmas lights and gifts alongside your Fourth of July decorations. Will it happen? It may or may not, however you shouldn't be too surprised if it does. If that does occur, then it wouldn't be too long before you are able to purchase Christmas decorations all year long.

Another reason to put your Christmas lights up early. When you get around to decorating the outside of your home with Christmas lights this year, consider not taking them down. If you are putting them up early why shouldn't you leave them up longer? If the Christmas lights make your house look prettier then why would you want to take them down? You may as well leave your Christmas lights up year round, especially if one is able to buy them year round.
