Why Circumcision Should Be Mandatory

Antoinette McGowan
Circumcision is listed as a non-medically necessary surgery that is preformed on baby boys. By being listed as non-medically necessary Medicaid in some states will no longer pay for this procedure. Some group and private health insurance companies are also refusing to pay for this. But medical research has shown that this procedure does have very important medical benefits.

Studies done have shown that a woman who is in a sexual relationship with a man that is circumcised is less likely to acquire cervical cancer than a woman who is with a man that is not circumcised. This reduction in cervical cancer shows one of the medical benefits of circumcision. The reason that circumcision has been linked to reducing the risks of cervical cancer is that circumcision reduces the risk of contracting the Human Papillomavirus. It is this virus that can cause cervical cancer.

How can medical insurance companies call this procedure non-medically necessary when studies have shown that this simple procedure preformed on a baby can in the future help reduce his future sexual partner from acquiring cervical cancer.

After all some states are now trying to force young girls to have to have the HPV vaccine. The HPV vaccine is meant to protect against the Human Papillomavirus which causes genital warts and can lead to cervical cancer is a woman. So here the laws are forcing this vaccine to help to prevent cervical cancer but why are they not making it mandatory for the boys to be circumcised. After all circumcision reduces the risk of cervical cancer just like the vaccine does. But the vaccine is being forced on girls.

Why shouldn't both preventions be forced on both sexes? Girls are starting to have this vaccine forced on them while for boys circumcision is still elective.

Other studies have shown that circumcision can reduce a man's chances of contracting HIV by up to 60 percent. The reason circumcision helps to reduce a man's risk when it come to HIV is that the foreskin is that the foreskin is very porous making it easier for the virus to enter into the bloodstream. These studies were conducted in Africa where the rate of HIV and AIDS is very high. Circumcision is not a common practice in remote areas of Africa.

Circumcision reduces the risks of acquiring HIV. Circumcision reduces the risk of catching the Human Papillomavirus. Circumcision reduces the risks of cervical cancer for his future partners. It is clearly shown that circumcision is just as medically necessary as the HPV vaccine for girls.

You guys are idiots. Circumcision should be illegal to do to an unconsenting person. We don't force our girls to do it, neither should we force are boys. I have 2 boys, neither are circumcised, nor is their father. They dont have any problems. They've heard of something called soap. Circumcision is a legal form of child abuse. It should be illegal.

    that's how equality works.

2 in 10 circumcisions in the united state are botched. This means that if you have your child circumcised you have a 20% chance of causing permanent physical and psychological harm. Of the remaining 80% most will experience a lack of sexual sensitivity because of destroyed nerve endings. With a greater than 50% chance of some form of permanent harm resulting from the choice to circumcise it doesn't make sense to make it mandatory. The argument that a woman is at less risk of cervical cancer doesn't change the fact that this is child abuse. It also doesn't change the statistic that a woman partnered with a man who has "Delayed Ejaculation" is 10 times more likely to end the relationship in part because her self esteem is affected. Only a circumcised man is at any risk of this condition meaning that it's impact is much more serious. Given these facts I instead feel that anyone who circumcises their children should be brought up on charges of child abuse.

Circumcision is identical to female mutilation in terms of long term impact and as such should be outlawed the same way. When medically unnecessary it is dangerous.

Botched circumcisions are common: It was such a traumatic experience for me that I remember it. They didn't bother sedating me. The damage made me prone to bouts of internal bleeding and urinary tract infections. This is a very real risk.

Even in cases where the circumcision is not botched it is a fact that millions of nerve endings are destroyed by the procedure. Sexual sensitivity is diminished, and the condition of "Delayed Ejaculation" is common among circumcised boys. This is identical to the problem girls have when circumcised which puts them at risk of never being able to have an orgasm, but is much more of a problem for men because it means they might never have children of their own.

Why push for a procedure that is known to cause harm to children? Don't you understand what child abuse is

Cancer is not a trival thing. Circumcision is quite trival by comparsion. ALL BOYS SHOULD BE CIRCUMCISED PERIOD!!!

Cervical cancer is enough reason to make circumcision mandatory. In order to prevent AIDS, the complete inner foreskin should be removed.

I decided to do a rebuttal to this person who has written this article where they try to justify the mutilation of male children's genitalia.

Considerin the dat on HIV and HPV and the reduction of STDS ALL boys should be circumcised. The best approach to this would be to require health professionals to explain the benefits of circumcision. Then if the parents don't object, the boy is then circumcised.

I grew up with a very tight foreskin with a small opening, phimosis, and had repeated infections growing up, and painful erections too. 2 guys I knew had those very too long foreskins which were impossible to clean inside and terrible for sex. Our problems could have been prevented instead of cured. Even a little off the end for me and a foreskin reduction for the other guys would have been a blessing. A shame that we had to wait until we were men to get our relief with circumcision. Prevention is better than cure! Cure is better than stubborness.

Circumcision has been proven to have varying degrees of multiple health benefits. Still, emotions are strong by parents for and against. With our youngsters having a high incidence of sex and old men living years in nursing homes, I support that circumcision availability be mandatory. All parents who choose it for their sons should get enough assistance to make it affordable to them. It is cost effective at birth as prevention, but after that as a cure it is expensive. My 2 adopted sons chose it for themselves, although mostly to be like their peers or mabye their older brother. Those 2 never complained one word about pain or the procedure, and were happy and proud to get it done. The health and hygiene benefits of circumcision should never be denied any boy because his parents can't come up with another couple hundred dollars (or so) at birth. We make preteen kids ride in the back seat because it is safer for them. We can make a circ available for baby boys because it is
