Why the Colts Will Win the Super Bowl

Peyton Manning Will Hoist His Second Lombardi Trophy This February

If the Monday night game earlier in the year between the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts is any sign of the season, it shows how dominating the Colts can be. They won the game while only having possession of the ball for around fifteen minutes. That means the Dolphins had the ball for three quarters while the Colts got to play for only one. When they came out on top, I thought right then and there they were the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Let's face it, Tony Dungy was a defensive guru and Peyton Manning was an offensive guru, how these two didn't combine for more Super Bowl wins is beyond my comprehension. Now it seems that this revitalized defense is able to shut anybody down. Manning is on pace to having another Hall of Fame type year and he never seems to make a bad pass. The Colts up to this point in the season are undefeated and some even say untested. Their closest game was against Miami, and they are in a lackluster division that will ensure them a playoff birth even if they choke the rest of the way.

Bob Sanders is key though. With Sanders in the lineup as safety, this Colts team will be unstoppable. One of the most fearsome forces in the NFL, Sanders has the unique ability to be able to cover well and play the rush even better. Sanders will make or break this team's defense, but if you remember they won Super Bowl XLI without him on the field.

They are poised to take back the trophy, with a dominating defense, a dominating quarterback, and a dazzling receiving core led by future Hall of Famer Reggie Wayne. Remember when Wayne was playing second fiddle to Marvin Harrison? Not anymore, he's stepped up in the absence of one of the games best and hasn't missed a beat.

This team will cruise the rest of the season and be prepared for the Divisional Round come playoff time. In a less than stellar AFC this year, the Colts will probably only have to win two home games to reach the Super Bowl, which seems like their destiny at this point. When they reach the Super Bowl, no team has the capacity in the NFC to stand up to Peyton's offense. If the Saints make the Super Bowl as well, which also seems likely at this point, look for a big game from both QB's. However, the difference in the game will be the Colts defense, which is better than the Saints. Not a lot of teams will give the Colts trouble this year, so look for them to hoist that trophy come February.
