Why Do the Courts Protect Child Murderers and Rapists but Not the Children?

Are American Children Disposable?

Robert Douglas
It's extremely hard to organize your thoughts to write an article on children being murdered, raped, and tortured. My blood boils when I read news accounts, almost on a daily basis, of our kids being assaulted. It sets my mind on a vengeance mode, wanting to hunt down these beasts and give them ten times more pain than their victims suffered.

Normal people have a hard time reading these news accounts, as they're too barbaric to even imagine, let alone reach an understanding that this actually happened to a child. We avert our eyes and silently pray it never happens to one of ours, feeling pity and sorrow for the victim and the family. You wonder how in God's name someone could do these things to another human being -- to an infant, a toddler, a young child.

The local and national news outlets have no shortage of these stories, slamming us in our faces with yet another horrific tale. Are we becoming desensitized against assaults on children? Are our psychological skins getting too thick to react to these atrocities?

A three-year-old child has no protection, guaranteed by law, like other groups and individuals have. Some examples are crimes involving the violation of a person's civil rights (usually meant in the context of an African-American or other minority victim), hate crimes (defined in Wikipedia as: "Hatecrimes (also known as bias crimes) are violent crimes, hate speech or vandalism, motivated by feelings of enmity against an identifiable social group. Hate crimes differ from regular crime motivated by economic gain or personal animosity."), etc.

The concept of victim-status can be largely attributed to the Liberal mindset. They continue to anoint people with dubious complaints as "victims", based on slick lawyering by the ACLU. Pretty soon, everyone with the most bizarre complaints would have a legitimate claim to this title. Yet children don't have the advocacy level that the rest of the lunatic fringe enjoys.

Think about it: you shoot an endangered species, perhaps an Eagle, and you will draw the wrath of a large group of people and serve time in jail. If you punch a postal person, it's a Federal offense with jail time likely. But if you repeatedly molest a young boy in Vermont, the judge will display empathy towards the predator and release him. It just happened recently, and is the "poster boy" for what's wrong in this country.

Burlington, Vermont judge Edward Cashman, sentenced an admitted child rapist to a mere 60 days in jail. The beast, Mark Hulett, admitted that he raped and sodomized his victim so many times over a three year period that he "lost count of their encounters". This animal began raping the little girl when she was only seven years old. The judge, who has been on the bench for over 25 years, says he no longer believes in punishment. He also wanted Hulett to attend counseling. It's been proven that rehab doesn't work for these animals.

The National Institutes of Health reports the average child molester sexually abuses over 117 different children over his lifetime. Read that again! Over 117 children for the "average" child molester! This one statistic alone should scare the hell out of every parent and family member. And yet these predators are given light sentences, if any at all, and allowed to walk the streets and commit their horrendous assaults on children over and over again.

Fortunately, the reaction to this outrage finally brought some semblance of justice, as Judge Cashman re-sentenced this scumbag to three years in prison. Not enough! The prosecutors in this case requested eight years originally, but even that is not enough. Given the recidivism of these molesters, they need to be put away for life if you don't believe in capital punishment. I do believe in the death penalty, as it really does deter these beasts from ever committing their crimes against children again.

Say what you want about Bill O'Reilly of Fox News, but he shone a national spotlight on Cashman, Hulett, and the state of Vermont with his reportage of this injustice. His program precipitated an outrage that finally brought a little bit of justice to the case. But tell me this: what will happen to that little girl? What will her life be after this three-year nightmare? Will she ever be normal? Happy? I think not. The beast called Hulett robbed her of her childhood innocence forever. She will have nightmares and Hulett will have perverted memories.

Just the other day I saw headlines that read, "father stabs baby in the back", and "boyfriend shakes baby so violently that the infant is in ICU and not expected to live". I'm sure that if I searched on the internet, I could cite many more. I didn't want to. One crime is enough. It goes on and on. It's not just about sexual abuse; it's about the broad spectrum of assaulting our children both physically and mentally.

A worst-case scenario is the unholy alliance between NAMBLA and the ACLU. You already know what the acronym ACLU means. You may not know what NAMBLA stands for: North American Man/Boy Love Association. NAMBLA defends what it asserts to be the right of minors to explore their sexuality more freely. In other words, they believe that it's a beautiful relationship for a man and a consenting boy to have sex. Of course, try to define "consenting". One of these pedophiles offers a six-year-old boy candy or toys to perform a sex act and the boy agrees. A six-year-old boy doesn't understand what's happening, just that he will get a reward to engage in a perverted AND illegal act with a disgusting pedophile. According to NAMBLA, that would be a consensual relationship and perfectly legitimate under the eyes of the law.

The ACLU has defended this despicable organization on a number of occasions. Perhaps they are better known as the American Criminal Liberties Union, as they always take the side of the criminal rather than the victim.

When will America wake up and lock up these perpetrators of violence against our children? When will they get realistic jail time for their horrific crimes? When will the Justice System, particularly Liberal judges who write their own laws, be held accountable?

Do you consider your children disposable, with fewer rights than adults who can defend themselves? I certainly don't! Get involved. Email your elected representatives and demand that our children be afforded equal rights and enact stronger laws to protect them. Don't allow their childhood innocence to be violently taken away from them.

    T. Goss: #1, The Prosecutor didn't even ask for a max sentence. The whole justice system in VT sides with the criminal rather than the victim, as an extension of the Lib mindset that transposes the criminal with the victim. #2, "counseling" is a euphemism for an excuse not to sentence this bastard. The recidivism rate with murderers, rapists, child molesters is very high and very well documented. To say that Cashman "had" to offer counseling in lieu of a deservedly harsh sentence is a cop-out. Cashman is a scumbag and so is the prosecutor for not giving this beast the sentence he deserved. Thanks for your comments, but I'm not buying them.

At the time, Cashman dished out the pathetic sentence because it was the only way that the criminal could get counseling. That law changed because of this in 2006. Laws in VT are much tougher yet - infallible no, but then look anywhere and there are flaws. I've seen cases with released pedophiles killing kids in Georgia, Florida, etc. It can and does happen anywhere, so it isn't just Vermont with the lax laws. Additionally, since then, Cashman has announced he will be retiring.

I finally realized that "Billo" is Bill O'Reilly, the lightening rod for both Libs and Cons. I'll say this much for him: he shines some light onto dark subject matter that the major media won't touch. He also allows opposing sides to present their perspective on issues. Name another cable outlet or mainstream network station that does that. Jeff missed my point completely, as he states "no one in the ACLU advocates against children". Exactly, as they also don't advocate FOR them. When they represent NAMBLA and its perverted, twisted members, they are fair game for me to attack them.

My respect for the ACLU has certainly lowered. At Care 2.com there are many people who work through educating and asking for signatures that petition government laws for stiffer penalties for people who rape and abuse children. A child does not have the capacity to consent to sexual acts. It is an adults excuse for their sick behavior. I disagree with commenter Jeff. A 3 year old should be allowed civil rights. I do not know who Billo is either.

Jeff: Yes, I despise the ACLU. But for you to defend their past record of defending NAMBLA, leads me to believe you don't have any children and are a card-carrying member of their pro-criminal organization. That having been said, you condemn the entire article and low-ball it regardless of the rest of the content. So that means you also agree with the lib judges that allow predators to go free and commit more violence against children? The ACLU would be proud of your disingenuous defense of them. BTW, who the hell is Billo?

This article is nothing but stupid hate speech...it is idiotic to try to equate civil rights with the rights of a child in a criminal case...no one in the ACLU advocates against children. They do advocate for civil rights and protections..and yes, they would even argue to protect your right to listen to Billo 'til it rots your mind..
