Why Cyprus is a Great Vacation Getaway

Cyprus is a large Mediterranean island, near Greece. It is a popular tourist destination because of its archaeological sites and history.

It has a population of about 800,000 people and is administered by Turkish Cypriots. It was said to have been the birthplace of Aprodite, and home of Kings Cinyras, Teucer, and Pygmalion. With this background it is not surprising that one of the most famous tourist destinations in the island of Cyprus is the Tomb of Kings in Paphos, Cyprus. The Tomb of Kings dates to 300 BC, and although the tombs were looted centuries past, an eerie silence makes the place imposing yet interesting to the tourists that visit.

The tombs are immense and designed based on Macedonian concepts. The tombs are carved into solid rock, and the effort it took to do this in those ancient times is impressive. After taking a tour of the Tomb of Kings you can now proceed to the Roman Mosaics. The intricacy and design of these mosaics are impressive. These mosaics are part of an impressive archaeological tour that includes a theater and a castle in ruins. The mosaics are the showcase of Paphos, they should not be missed.

To change the atmosphere a bit from all the archaeological visits you can try "George's Fun Bus" for a pleasant and different experience. The tour is very informative, and filled with George's wisecracks and gags to break the monotony. You will be able to visit another archeological site and some art exhibitions. The trip culminates in a nice and pleasant swim in a picturesque cove, with barbeque to placate your hunger at the end of the day.

The coastline of Paphos is also a sight to see. A long drive along the coast of Paphos is beautiful, especially for photographers who like to take night shots. Just set up your tripod properly somewhere along the coast and click away. The lights and colors that are produced can easily produce magnificent shots, and admiration from those who see the photographs themselves.

The best time to visit these sites and Cyprus is in the summer, for the rains would make visiting these sites a bit difficult. Some also like to visit in the spring, when it is not that hot. In the end, it is up to you when you would like to visit Paphos. So remember that Paphos is a great place to visit in Cyprus, it is an impressive archeological extravaganza for those who appreciate and love these types of tours.
