Why Diamonds Aren't a Girls Best Friend

Christina Armani
How can diamonds be a girl's best friend? They're not even living things. You can love diamonds, but diamonds can't love you back. Diamonds don't talk to you on the phone, or visit you when you're sick. They can't keep you company or comfort you in times of need. Diamonds are not companions or confidants, they're just objects. Diamonds symbolize materialistic values while negating other important values such as love, respect, and values.

I don't understand why women are stuck with stones while men get dogs as a best friend.
Diamonds won't go for a walk with you, greet you when you come home, fetch you your slippers and the paper, or make you feel proud when you teach them tricks. Dogs are also loyal and faithful to you while a diamond just sits on your finger. So in light of this fact, I propose that cats become the girl's new best friend. It's now 2008 and it's finally time for girl's to get a new best friend.

A diamond can make you look good on the outside but it can't make you look good on the inside. Diamonds can't give you a positive attitude, friendly disposition, or good set of morals. Diamonds may make you look classy and sophisticated, but they can't change the fact that you're unpleasant to be around and get on everyone's nerves. As the saying goes, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. The truth is that diamonds are only a cover and nothing more.

Diamonds are also not a girl's best friend since you can't be sure what type of diamond you're getting. Around 10% of diamonds are "blood diamonds" also known as "conflict diamonds. They diamonds promote terrorism, since terrorists wage wars to take control of the diamond mines in Africa. Children in Africa are either worked to death or turned into sex slaves, and there is nothing friendly about that at all.

There's a clear distinction between diamonds and best friends. Diamonds are things of beauty and best friends are things of reverence. A diamond is something you own, a best friend is something you have. Diamonds may become dim or cracked, but real friendships last forever. Diamonds will make you look good, but they won't ever make you feel good. I urge you to stop and think twice before purchasing a diamond. There are lots of other gems to choose from like pearls, rhinestones, zirconias, rubies, and many more.
