Why Did My Cellulite Come Back?

Erin Morris
As aesthetic technology has advanced, many techniques and procedures have been developed for the reduction and removal of cellulite. The fact is 80% of women over the age of 20 struggle with the visible effects of cellulite and many are at a loss as what to do about it. Cellulite is a condition that affects both men and women but is much more prevalent in females than males. Because so many women suffer from the visible appearance of cellulite, continuing research has allowed scientists to discover its exact cause, as well as many treatments that can remedy its appearance.

Cellulite is a kind of fat tissue that is found within the deeper layers of the skin. Our skin contains layers of connective tissues, and as fat cells build-up, they get deposited within these tissue layers. Once these cells become imbedded within the various tissue layers, the tissue thickens and hardens which in turn, causes the skins shape to change. This build-up of fat cells eventually leads to the visual formation of cellulite.

It was originally thought that the formation of cellulite was linked with obesity, but studies have shown that this is not the case. Many women within their target weight group still experience cellulite build-up. There is no one factor that can lead to the formation of cellulite; cellulite most often forms as a result of insufficient water intake, stress and tension, smoking, incorrect breathing, an unbalanced diet, fatigue, little or no exercise and hormonal cycles. Those who maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly can greatly reduce their chances of forming this bumpy, dimply skin.

Once cellulite forms, the only way to reduce it is by loosening the hardened tissue in order to release the fat cells and other toxins that have built themselves up. Once these waste materials are removed, the connective tissue will have a chance to return to its normal elasticity. Many women have found that they can naturally reduce their cellulite build-up simply by changing their diet, exercise, breathing and relaxation techniques.

However, for that stubborn cellulite that just won't seem to go away, many treatments have also been developed that can reduce the visible signs of cellulite. Some of these treatments include:

Endermologie: is performed by using therapeutic massagers that stimulate various layers of the skin. The massager uses mild suction to pull at the skin in order to gently roll and pinch it. This concentrated massage works to break down subcutaneous fat, reduce water retention and rid the body of toxins. When this is done, collagen production is normalized and circulation is increased allowing for less build up and ultimately softer, firmer skin.

Mesotherapy: uses microinjections to deliver vitamins, minerals and amino acids into the mesoderm or middle layer of the skin. This is done in order to promote metabolism, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and nourish and revitalize the skin. This treatment improves blood flow, dissolves excess fat deposits and removes hardened connective tissue.

RejuveSkin™: this treatment involves surgically removing the causes of cellulite. The fibrous septae or connective tissue are very short and cause the skin to dimple. These septae are cut out from beneath the skin in order to remove the cellulite and allow the skin tissue to take on a more normal contour.

Laser Cellulite: a treatment that combines radio frequency, laser light and massage. It utilizes radio frequency waves in order to increase oxygen in the cells which will promote intercellular division, laser light to promote collagen growth and increase the elasticity of the skin and massage to smooth out the skin.

With the exception of the surgical removal of cellulite, all of these treatments are performed in a series. Most patients will undergo anywhere from 10 - 15 cellulite reduction treatments. If the treatments are performed in a timely manner, patients will see fantastic results. No problems right? WRONG!

Once patients undergo cellulite reduction treatments, many revert back to their normal lives so eventually they experience the re-appearance of cellulite. These women are saying: what the heck?! You'd think that once you've undergone cellulite reduction treatments, you should be able to live a cellulite free life. What women don't realize is that these treatments are NOT permanent.

Cellulite is a condition that can come upon you at any time. It has nothing to do with how much you weigh, it all depends on your diet and exercise regiments as well as other daily life factors. Women who undergo these treatments and don't change the way they live their lives are, in effect, wasting their money.

All of these treatments (surgery included) are a fantastic way to reduce the visible signs of cellulite on the body, but if you don't take your treatment one step further and make changes to your daily routine, cellulite will only come back. But think positive! Many women, every day, whether naturally or through treatment regiments, are fighting and winning the battle with cellulite. With a series of treatments and some small daily changes, you can say goodbye to that orange peeled skin forever!
