Simply put, God puts us through trials to make us stronger and better able to serve Him. We read in Job 23: 10, "When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." Trials have a way of making us better people - and they strengthen and improve the quality our faith and prayer life.
Ultimately, trials also enable us to be more sympathetic and nurturing to others who are troubled and suffering: Second Corinthians 5:4 says, "that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
On this topic, the Holy Spirit gave James, the oldest half-brother of Christ, the wisdom to write the following in James 1:2-4: "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing."
Can you see how some trials are actually a blessing? How they profit us? They increase the quality of our faith and bring us into a greater intimacy with the Lord. They build our character and make us mature and complete. They are opportunities for abundant joy!
God promises to help us get through trials and temptations. When troubles come, pray and God will supply you with all you need to face them.
Father God, thank you for willingly dying on the cross for us, for paying the price that we deserved to pay for transgressing your holy standard. Lord, allow us to grow in your Word and to deepen our understanding of its power, to understand that it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; that it is the Bread of Life. Continue to give us the desire to meditate in your word day and night, to delight in it, that we may become true disciples and live lives that are pleasing to you. In Jesus' precious name I pray these things. Amen.

Great post, I really think we grow stronger through trials!
Boy, I use to ask that a lot but I don't anymore. I may waiver from time to time but my faith remains strong.
I have been in the valley and I have been on the mountaintop. Wherever I go, the Lord (my God) goes with me and the landscape is beautiful. cheers :)
Amen! Sometimes I just happen upon something I need to read! :)
