All of a sudden, your scalp and face start to sweat. If you are old enough to read this you have probably experienced excessive head sweating for years. You have been suffering from hyperhydrosis. This is just a fancy way to say excessive sweating. The condition can start in childhood and accelerates through puberty.

There are two types of sweating, focalized and generalized. Generalized is all over your body. Excessive head sweating is considered focalized. Focalized sweating can affect the head, armpits and soles of the feet. Excessive head sweating can also frequently be accompanied by blushing. You cannot always reliably predict when it will happen to you.

The reason you may suddenly start to sweat excessively can vary in individuals. The thyroid gland can be one culprit of the cause. The thyroid gland is the largest of the endocrine glands in the body. It helps regulate metabolism and a person may suffer from an over active thyroid. One symptom of this disorder is excessive sweating. This could explain why you might just start to sweat, even if you are not doing anything physical.

Over active head perspiring can be caused by a genetic factor. It is possible that you are not the only one in your family to suffer this discomfort.

Social situations can bring out the sweat too. If social situations make you feel apprehensive, sweating can be noticeably worse. This can lead to self-conscious feelings and possibly low esteem and feelings of depression. Professional settings can make you uncomfortable and make you experience nervous tension. Perhaps you are aware that it could cause a sweaty situation that could put a damper on the real reason you are there. You may focus on the possibility of sweating which could actually trigger the condition. You may become anxious imagining yourself needing to wipe your face even though the room is a cool 65 degrees.

Anxiety can definitely trigger the sweating. You can also compound the situation by having a phobia. Perhaps you have a phobia about driving over large bridges. You may be prone to panic attacks. You may become anxious about the possibility of getting a panic attack (going over a large bridge) that could cause you to sweat. A panic attack will make you sweat but you could start to perspire just thinking about the panic attack before you actually experience one.

Certain foods can cause excessive head sweating. Hot coffee and spicy food can make the hormones secrete and cause you to sweat. Avoiding such foods such as curry and hot peppers could be a good preventative measure.

Lastly, medications can play a role in the cause of head sweating. Some antibiotics are known for this. It may be a good idea to discuss this with your physician if they want to prescribe medications for any new conditions.
