Why I Don't Believe in Evolution

According to Its Kind

Charisse Van Horn
Evolution- the theory that everyone teaches as fact- could there be anything more ridiculous on the planet? I was watching the news here in Florida last week, you know, we are in the heart of the Bible belt and evolution has not been taught in public schools, well that is until they ruled last week that evolution should be taught in the Florida public school system. But what really made me laugh was a little poll that the news station did after airing the story. They asked if the viewers thought evolution should be taught as a fact, a theory, or not at all. Amazingly, the highest percentage went towards teaching Evolution as a fact. How do you teach a theory as a fact? I just had to laugh. But then it dawned on me, that this really isn't a laughing matter. You see, evolution isn't a fact, but every day in the media, in science reports, in the National Geographic, in scientific and medical journals it is portrayed as if it were, and many people simply believe that it is. But I do not believe in evolution, and I'll tell you why,

I am sure that you can already figure out that I am a Christian and that I am one of those Bible thumping, believing, conservatives that everyone loves to hate and blame all of society's ills upon. Well, I am a Christian, I am a Bible believer, and I have to rate my relationship with Jesus Christ as the foremost important relationship in my life, but I don't believe that society's moral, political, environmental, or governmental issues are my fault, nor the fault of my faith, but I won't go there right now. Now, I will simply explain why I don't believe in Evolution.

I don't believe in evolution for one simple phrase that is continually repeated in Genesis chapter 1. The phrase states, "after its (his) own kind." You'll see this phrase continually if you read through the first book of Genesis. It is the account of God creating (or recreating as many of us Christians believe) the earth. When God says in Genesis chapter 1 verse 11, "Let the earth bring forth grass, and herb yielding seed and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth," I noticed that the phrase, after his (it's in other translations) makes the distinction that grass, herbs, and trees are going to reproduce after their own kind, not another.

When I look at verse 12 of Genesis chapter 1 I see this, "And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind; and God saw that it was good." Again, not only do we see the phrase "after his kind" but we also see that the seed is to cause the fruit trees to reproduce "after its own kind," not another kind, but its own kind. Orange trees do not reproduce apple trees, grass seed does not reproduce lemon blossoms, every tree, herb, and fruit reproduces after its own kind, according to the seed that is within. Never has there been any proof that any species reproduces another kind, or a different kind, or changes the seed within to create a "new kind" everything on this great big plane that lives reproduces after its own kind, (now I am not talking about mutations and viruses, I am talking about species merging, blending, or morphing into one another).

Then I move down to verse 20 of Genesis chapter 1 and I read that God created great whales and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl, after his kind, and God saw that is was good. Again, I read, "after his kind" and to this day, I see whales in the ocean, they mate, and they produce more whales, after their kind, according to the seed that is within them. I see cardinals mate with other cardinals, I see blue jays mate with other blue jays, and I see fish mate with other fish. Never have I seen the order of creation so upset or shaken that fish try to mate with birds, or whales try to mate with pelicans as they perch on the docks of the bay. It seems that the creatures of earth understand that there is an order to reproduction and that they mate according to their kind.

Moving down to Genesis chapter 1 verse 24 we read, "And God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Now maybe you want to believe that the animals that you see today used to be a "different kind." I don't know where you would get any evidence of this. When I look around, all I see are animals reproducing after their own kind. In fact, I see that animals don't mate outside of their kind. They like their own kind, they stay together as families, they have a structural unit, and they bond, mate, and reproduce. Yes, species are different but they all follow the laws of their own kind. Show me one example of animals, plant life, or people ever mating with another species and producing a fertile offspring that continued to reproduce after its own kind.

I've had many pets that were very close; in fact they loved each other. I even had a dog that lost a litter of puppies and eventually nursed two kittens. She loved those kittens, but no matter how much the laws of nature were bent in her favor, she will never reproduce a new species with cats. Dogs and cats cannot breed, humans and chimpanzees cannot breed, and whales and birds cannot breed. There is an amazing historical record that is unveiled when science begins to look at the DNA record and genetic coding of species. Scientists may continue to search for that missing animal, that one creature that changed from one species to another and reproduced a new creature, but I do not believe they will ever find it. I do not believe it exists. Yes, when you look at gorillas the amazing similarities are incredible. They are undoubtedly the closest animals to human life on the planet, but do you think gorillas and humans can mate and produce new offspring?

So, in answer to the poll, "Do I think evolution should be taught as a fact?" Are you kidding me? It takes a lot more faith to believe that different species can interbreed and reproduce than it does to believe that all life reproduces according to it's kind, according to the seed that is within itself, and that's why I don't believe in evolution.

I stopped reading after you tried dismissing scientific evidence by quoting verses from the bible.

"So, in answer to the poll, `Do I think evolution should be taught as a fact?` Are you kidding me? It takes a lot more faith to believe that different species can interbreed an reproduce than it does to believe that all life reproduces according to it's kind"

No, it does not take more faith to believe a theory with mounds of scientific evidence behind it than it does to believe in a super natural omnipotent god from which the only support comes from a book written by a person and translated time after time by unknown people with no original copy.

You should listen to "Storm" by Tim Minchin, it is a beat poem. You will giggle, I assure you.
    Conclusion:
Evolution is scientific fact. Religion can still be in place. Get over it.

-I mostly agree with you rebecca. Agreeing with evolution does not mean that you can't be religious. When the church said that the earth was flat, or that the earth was 6000 years old, they were proven to be incorrect and changed their mind.
-Morality does not stem from religious belief. Morality is doing what is right no matter what you are told. The bible was written by many different people over time, they added in great moral guidelines, and some social norms, calling them morals. This causes a problem because social norms change over time. During that time slavery and unequal rights for women were normal. But now we know that is wrong. Morals are a mixture of logical and emotional interpretations. In many religions the "golden rule" is written in holy books, long before the bible.
    - Darwin was a free-thinker, he started out wanting to work for the church, but later he lost his faith. Faith can be used in great ways. It provides hope for after death. But if misused...

This article is completely ridiculous - you have no understanding of Evolution and no understanding of the most basic terminology used in science such as the word "theory". Honestly, did you post this article just to troll and see how many hits you can get? Are you really an atheist trying to make Creationists look bad? I sincerely hope that this article was not written in sincerity but is simply satire poking fun at people that don't know that Evolution is already a well-established fact.

oh and by the way...mules are a result of interbreeding
    So are ligers.

And what happened to the FOSSIL RECORD THAT DATES ORGANISMS BACK 4.6 billion years ago

  • Rebecca5/9/2012

    oh and wait..
ALL SCIENTISTS ARENT ATHEISTS;Many scientists are christian.

  • Rebecca5/9/2012

    and i am a christian.
Christianity and Evolution are not opposites.
Science DOES NOT (Inherently) CONFLICT WITH RELIGION,actually.
    Religion without science means nothing
Science without religon leads to moral nihlism

Also,Charles darwin was a christian. He studied at a christian school and worked in the church.

can you think of a single non-religous reason?

  • Cameron5/8/2012

Sorry for so much logic, but I noticed you don't understand the meaning of secular. Secular does not mean atheist. Secular is more like a "no comment". A secular government means that the government chooses not to pick a religion. America is a secular country. Although after the Cold War we switched our socialist-inspiring motto to in god we trust. That does violate the 1st amendment, favoring abrahamic religion, but oh well. We dont seem to be too mad. There is a negative correlation to belief in evolution and average income. We don't think you don't have the right to be religious, we love the idea for you to choose how you want. Though unless there is empirical evidence to support it, keep out of the schools. I hope you feel the same way about gravity, or atomic theory, or germ theory.
