Why I Don't Care that Tiger Woods Had a Car Accident and Neither Should You

Tiger Woods is All Over the News for Hitting a Tree and a Fire Hydrant with His Car at 2:25 Am. Who Cares!

Cassandra James
"Tiger Woods hit a tree then a fire hydrant with his car". "Tiger Woods' car accident is looking more suspicious every day". "Tiger Woods' wife broke the back windows of his crashed car with a golf club to get him out". "Where was Tiger Woods going at 2:25 in the morning?" These are all statements I've heard on assinine TV shows for the last two days.

CNN has been spouting off ad infinitum about Tiger Woods and his car accident, the BBC had a story (albeit less sensationalistic than the American shows) about Tiger Woods, his car accident and his supposed affair with another woman, and Yahoo has the Tiger Woods story splashed all over their 'news' pages. Seriously, who cares! And why are we all being forced to listen to this stuff?

I've always been irritated by the public's insatiable appetite for celebrity gossip. Celebrities like Tiger Woods can't set one foot wrong, do anything that a certain percentage of the public might disapprove of, or do something even in the privacy of their own homes without some idiot finding out and broadcasting it to the world. Then half of the rest of humanity wants to read about it. Why?

What possible difference could it make to your life that someone like Tiger Woods has had a minor car accident? Why do you care that his wife had to break windows to get him out of his car? And, for pity's sake, what business is it of yours where Tiger Woods was going at 2:25 am?

For the most part, Tiger Woods has had a pretty squeaky clean public life for all of his very public career. Married, a proud parent, and the most famous golfer in the world, Woods has just gotten on with his life, his job and his business dealings over the years. But, with this minor traffic accident (and yes, it was minor, with Woods' injuries even being minor, although they too were blown out of all proportion by the news media) so-called 'experts' are now crawling out of the woodwork to give their 'expert opinion' on how this might affect Tiger Woods sponsorships and business opportunities. Newsflash. It won't.

What's nothing more than a minor traffic accident in which Woods states he "lost control of his car" and was "completely responsible", that should be the end of the story. After all, if the truth is that Tiger Woods was having an argument with his wife and lost control of his car because he was angry (something which many news outlets are hinting at if not outright saying it), that's their business and not ours. Most couples have arguments. Most couples leave in anger. And most couples do things they might regret later. Tiger Woods isn't God. He's human and allowed to make mistakes, just like the rest of us.

So, to all those Nosy Noras who have nothing better to do with their lives than listen to TV 'news' about Tiger Woods and his car accident. Please. Get.......a..........life! Stop wasting yours gossiping about someone like Tiger Woods and a minor incident that won't be worth anything a week from now. I don't care that Tiger Woods had a car accident and, seriously, neither should you.

I firmly believe that everyone, even public figures, should separate their public lives with their private lives and for the most part Tiger has done this recently. And its true, its no one business to know Tiger's affairs especially if he feels unconfortable talking about them to the whole world. But the reality of the fact is, they will always be certain people who will travel the world to get all the dirt and low down gossip about any celebrity no matter what the cost. And for most of the time, the facts of a story are often missing and the details are often exagerrated. For this is their job and someone pays them to do what they do. But for me, I don't care where Tiger goes at 2:25am in the morning and I'll bet you don't too.

Interesting how a minor accident has totally transformed his existence. I think if we knew more of the backstory, we would realize the relevancy of his life on ours.

Ven is a prime example of how disgusting society has become. I can't believe papers like the Enquirer are still in business. For one thing the information is blown way out of porportion. I have to wonder about the intelligence level of those buying into that garbage. The "revelations" shouldn't matter to anyone but the man's family.

Meathook needs to get a life. You and I think a lot alike! I could care less about Tiger Woods too. People need to care more about what THEY are doing. I'm tired of hearing about Tiger Woods, and like you said, it's disgusting. There are many 'Tiger Woods' out there, and the funny part is, many of them are pointing a finger at him! People should worry more about the choices they make. What Tiger Woods chooses to do makes no difference to me. I turn the TV channel too.

But why do you care and why is it any of your business? To me it's no different than sticking your nose in someone's business who lives down the street. It's nasty and not something any person with any substance should be worrying about. I turn the TV channel every time a new Tiger Woods story comes on. It's disgusting.

"For the most part TW has had a pretty squeaky clean public life" -Yeah, but turns out it's not so squeaky clean! That's why it's interesting. "Married" -barely. "Proud parent" -please. I'm not one to drool all over celebrity news but jeez, the level of this guys infidelity and his obvious sociopathic tendencies is just fascinating. Much more so than Paris Hilton having sex in a hotel room... whoopdy-doo.

I agree with everything you wrote in this article.

I agree. I wish more celebrities would stand up to the public. He doesn't owe us a thing. Only law breakers do and even then I don't think they should apologize to the general public. Do I want Michal Phelp's insincere apology for smoking pot or Tiger's for having sex with strippers? No. I'd have more respect if they said none of your damned business. Great work.

Ven, what 'revelations'? That he might have been having an affair? So what? Who cares? Not my business. Not your business. Not anyone's business except Tiger Woods and his wife. Why the hell do so many Americans think they have the right to stick their noses in someone else's business. It's disgusting and a prime example of how sick American society is today.

  • Ven12/6/2009

This piece was done before the 'revelations' happened? Then it became more than the car accident that you're focusing on here.
