Secondly there are all those quizzes ranging from "What Dog Are You?" to "What 25 Things Don't Your Friends Know About You?" I could care less with what breed of dog I share traits. If there are 25 things my friends don't know about me, it's because I don't want them to know. However, I have friends who will share their most private thoughts and if I don't I feel guilty. I'm not a true friend if I don't air my dirty laundry out there for all to read.
My kids are on Facebook. There have been days when I have neglected to check my Facebook page. Those are the days when my kids will post an important fact that I will miss. My friends won't miss it, however, and when they quiz me about it and I don't have an answer, I feel guilty.
I haven't been in high school for quite a few years but I still remember wanting to be popular. Of course, the more friends you had the more popular you were. A few weeks ago my daughter chalked up number 300 on her "Friends List," and the list is growing. I'm nowhere near that number and say that I don't care, but deep inside I still want to be popular.
I have been a serious amateur photographer for a number of years. I even have a few pictures on my Facebook page. My Profile photo has been updated, once or twice. I do not, however, have pictures of my latest vacation, or surgery scars or new hair color and I feel guilty for not sharing. There are some terrific photos on Facebook, but I don't have time to view all of them. If I miss the photos of my friends' grand kids' birthday parties, guilt rears its ugly head again.
I can't remember the last time I filled in the square that states what I am thinking or doing at this very moment. Not letting my friends know what's on my mind is yet another reason to feel guilty.
What ever happened to e-mail or better yet a phone call to your best friend? You share your deepest thoughts, desires, fears and emotions and know that they won't share them... except with their other best friends.

Post a CommentYou can share with only one via private message on Facebook, but regular FB is so handy to get the news out and keep up without spending phone time with a dozen people. It simplifies my life and yes, I check it daily!
It has some good points but you have to be so very careful on it.
Since facebook is a social media and not private, a lot would depend on why you use facebook. Facebook can serve for useful purposes.
The only reason I'm on facebook, is to be able to see photos of my grandchildren, and to play Farmtown. lol
Some people sit on Facebook the way I used to play World of Warcraft. I'm quite happy to be away from the gaming world and don't want to replace it with a Facebook world. That's why I'm never on Facebook more than a few minutes each day. Check family, post link to a new article, say "hi" or something as inert, then log off.
I don't use Facebook for personal reasons-- too terribly boring, lol! Yet, it's useful for Groups, if one is into that kind of thing. It's a great way to get information super-fast among the entire group.
I don't like it either! Can't really figure out how all kinds of people I don't know get onto my page via people I do know. It seems like a colossal waste of time anyway.
You can personalize face book now, on the edit friends, you can make separate folders to tuck the most important people you want to track into one news feed. And all the junk the others post that you don't want to see you can click the hide button and hit the application without hiding the person. I use FB often to post my new articles and generate traffic back to AC. I like it quite well myself. Thanks for sharing.
I'm on it, but never have time to check it. :-(
