Why EBooks Are Better Than Regular Books

Reason #1: They are Cheaper

eBooks vary in price but they are almost always cheaper than buying yourself a paper copy of the book. Prices on Amazon.com range from about $2-10. There are several websites, such as feedbooks.com, where you can old classics and some newer, lesser-known, books for free. Since they are cheaper, I don't feel the need to try to sell them back to regain some of my money. This saves a lot of time and energy.

Reason #2: Better for the Environment

ebooks are definitely better for the environment than their normal paper relatives because no trees are killed in order to make them. This helps to prevent deforestation. There are no factories required to produce eBooks which decreases pollution.

Reason #3: Easier to Share

eBooks are easier to share with your friends and family because you simply have to e-mail the file to them. There is no need to make a special trip to deliver the book or wonder when or if you will you're your favorite book back. You can keep a copy on your computer and your friends can have theirs too.

Reason #4: More Convenient

I find eBooks to be much more convenient. When you order one, you can download and start reading it immediately rather than waiting days for it to arrive in the mail. You do not need to go to the bookstore and search for the book you want because you can simply type in the title and author and it will appear. They are also great for people living in small spaces or who do not like to have a lot of clutter because they are stored in tiny files on your hard drive rather than taking up space on your shelves. I always feel bad getting rid of a book that I paid for, but with eBooks there is a smaller investment and I can save as many as I want.

Reason #5: Wider Variety Available

Since eBooks are much easier to produce than regular books, more and more people are now able to publish their writing. You may now be able to find books written on an obscure subject of interest to you that was not previously popular enough to publish because it would not sell well enough to be profitable. This is great news for new authors who are trying to gain exposure as they will have the opportunity to get their work out to a large audience. Since eBooks are often cheap or free, readers might be more likely to pick up a book on a topic they may not have otherwise considered.

Reason #6: They're Just Better

eBooks can be read on a variety of devices. Many cell phones now have eBook readers built in so you can have your book wherever you go in a much smaller package. I like reading on my computer because I simply have to click to turn the page rather than holding the book up. Most programs allow you to change the size of the font which is great for people with less than perfect vision. There is usually also the option to have the program read the book to you which is great for times when you need to do something else but just can't put the book down.

While regular books are still nice to have sometimes, I feel that the benefits associated with eBooks makes them much more desirable to anyone with the ability to use them.
