The reason that the English cuisine is not popular can be found in history. The English cuisine has a good reputation during the 18th and 19th century when English cooking was considered as an art. Families moved from the land and started to import food. From that time; the English cuisine is subject of many jokes and this is one of the reasons that it is hard for England to gain their good reputation back.
However, most dishes are very easy to prepare; the cuisine of England is really delicious. Promotion is an important factor for reaching a good reputation abroad and it is hard to compete with countries like France and Italy. One thing is sure: England is fighting back to gain their reputation as a good cuisine. There is a lot more interest in the English cuisine than some time ago because of the popularity of the celebrity chefs who tries to get the standard English food back in their country.
An important reason is that many people don't know all the delicious dishes of this beautiful country. Fish, chips, green peas and kidney pies are dishes that many people don't like but did they ever try it to eat this food in England? There is a great difference between eating typical English dishes in your hometown than you tasting this food in England. It is the same with typical dishes of other countries. The taste of by Italian food is much better in Italy than in your hometown. Every country has its own secrets of their typical food.
The English breakfast is one you need to eat in England; it is totally different compared with these in other countries of the world. There is a lot of variation by example corn flakes, muesli, eggs and bacon, grilled sausages, mushroom, tomatoes and white beans in a tomato sausage. The most popular drink served by this breakfast is tea; but also coffee is possible. Who doesn't like such breakfast?
Dinner is almost every time served with soup, sandwich, kidney pies or a hot meal. These sandwiches are mostly filled with cheese, meat, Tunny fish and often garnished with salad and tomatoes.
Between 4p.m and 5 p.m it is time for the afternoon tea and often served with some cake.
The meal in the evening can be very traditional: fish, meat, vegetables and potatoes. Tea is the national drink of England and if you visit this country it is recommended to drink some typical English tea.
If you visit England you will have another opinion about the cuisine of England than you probably have now. Try it out!

Post a CommentI learned a lot I didn't know about English cuisine. Great article!!!! :)
Great report!
Thanks for pointing out that our cuisine is worth trying! So many people dismiss English cuisine as bad before they have even had a chance to try it. I also agree that many ethnic cuisines taste better where they actually come from. I thought Italian food tasted so much better in Italy. Elsewhere, ethnic cuisine tends to be a poor imitation of the real thing.

You made some good points there Erik.
I especially like the part where you state that Italian food tastes much better in Italy than in your hometown.
Boy, ain't that the truth.
Nowhere do they made such good pizzas as in the streets of Sorronto.
