Back-to-School sales often offer much more than you might think-and they certainly offer deals on many more items than just school supplies. If you look carefully at the sales ads, you will likely find special deals on quite a few items you might be able to use. Here are some categories in which you can find great bargains:
Crafting items
If you are into crafting, you will definitely find some deals. Scrapbook-lovers can especially save some money on their materials. So can crafters who enjoy painting and drawing. I have seen bargains on art products (such as paints, brushes, stencils, and colored pencils) as well as on items like poster boards, specialty pens (some acid-free ones), and fabric. Check around at craft stores and sewing stores, but don't forget to browse at mass merchandiser stores (like Wal-Mart or Target) and drugstores because deals can often be found in those stores as well.
Business/Home Office supplies
Stores like Staples and Office Max have Back-to-School sales around this time of year-and, they offer deals on many kinds of business supplies, not just deals on school supplies. You can find bargains on calculators and adding machines, computer accessories and supplies (including printer paper and USB drives, for example), laptops, computer discs, desks, and office chairs. Don't limit yourself to shopping only at office supply stores, however; many other stores, such as mass merchandisers, drugstores, and department stores have deals on business supplies in their Back-to-School sales.
Clothing
Children's clothing isn't the only clothing on sale at this time of year! Department stores and mass merchandisers have excellent sales on all sizes and types of clothing, from baby and toddler sizes up to adult sizes. You can even find good deals on staples like socks and underwear for the family.
Household necessities
Around this time of year, many stores offer deals on some kinds of household necessities. Think about anything that a college student could need in a dorm room or a first apartment-those are the types of things you will find on sale. This includes small appliances, such as coffee pots and toaster ovens, as well as bedding, towels, and dishes.
Now, about the school supplies that are on sale-these items can be quite useful, even for people without kids in school. Stock up when you see deals on these items:
Pens and pencils
Prices on these are phenomenal during the Back-to-School sales-I have seen good quality pens on sale for 29 cents each and packs of pencils for 10 cents each. What household doesn't need pens and pencils?
Notebooks
Spiral-bound notebooks of all sizes are bargains during these sales. These are useful in many ways, such as for jotting down phone messages and making grocery lists, for example. Some stores offer these for as little as 10 to 15 cents each, so why not stock up?
Glue
White school glue isn't the only type of glue on sale-I regularly see deals on glue sticks and super glue during these sales. It is always a good idea to have glue around the house, because you never know when you might need it.
Folders and binders
These can come in quite handy for sorting household paperwork, such as warranties, leases, and bank statements. Pick up some folders and binders for next to nothing during the Back-to-School sales, and then you can get everything organized.
If you have young children who aren't quite ready for school, consider taking advantage of the deals you can find on these items:
Markers, crayons, and colored pencils
Children love to color, and at these sales you can stock up on these items very cheaply. Buy a few extra packs to stash away for when the markers dry out or the crayons break, and you won't have to pay full price for them sometime later on.
Filler paper
Kids who love to color need paper, right? You can find lined and unlined filler paper on special during these sales.
So, I'm sure you can see now that even if you aren't shopping for school kids, you should still take a look at what the Back-to-School sales ads are offering-you just might find some really great deals on some items you can use. Take a look and see for yourself!

Post a CommentI'm with you, Michelle. I love sales too. I recently bought 10 notebooks from Walmart for $0.10 each. They always come in handy, as I keep a diary and I need notebooks for article ideas.
