Why Everyone's Interested in Tiger Woods

The Tiger Woods scandal is another example of how the public is obsessed with greatness and its fall.

As one of my friends said, it's not that surprising that a good-looking sports star like Tiger Woods would be sleeping with a lot of different women. What is surprising is how Tiger Woods was able to keep the scandal under the wraps for so long and keep up his squeaky clean image.

It's also surprising how many purported lovers of Tiger Woods have crawled out of the woodworks in the last few weeks. The allure of money and fame is great indeed, and the notoriety will only help the business of the couple ladies who are porn stars, not to mention the cool cash they're getting from tabloids to spill the beans on Tiger Woods.

It's clear that maelstrom of scandal is new ground for Tiger Woods. Long idolized, Tiger Woods isn't used to having to face such public condemnation and probing into his private life. This is clear from the first press release Tiger Woods put out, which gave no specifics and created more questions than it answered. Clearly not the work of a pro. The way to do it would be to state things clearly and apologize at once, instead of just fanning the curiosity of the public.

But neither Tiger Woods nor anyone else probably could have predicted how quickly the whole story exploded. It became headline news everywhere, even for established media sources with good reputations. The way a lot of media, such as the New York Times, handled it was writing about the public's obsession with the Tiger Woods scandal, skirting the trashier tack of reporting the scandal itself.

Either way, the public is very much intrigued by Tiger Woods. It seems Tiger has retreated in as dignified a way as he possibly could have, given the situation. News sources are reporting that Tiger Woods is putting away his golf clubs to focus on his personal issues. Whether his marriage is salvageable or not, only time will tell. One thing's for sure: the media and much of the country will be watching breathlessly to see how things unfold for the disgraced legend, Tiger Woods.

Even people with millions of dollars aren't immune from temptation. The Tiger Woods scandal; be it good or bad, has drawn worldwide attention to the world of sports which might be a ploy in and of itself. At the end of the day though, we have to remember that we're all human beings, susceptible to the same circumstances. The decisions that we make in such trying times can further develop our character or allow us to bury ourselves in the pits of despair.
