Why Fathers Should Attend Childbirth Classes

Dads do you remember your marriage vows?

" Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon her your heart's deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her as long as you both shall live?" And you had answered the minister with a resounding, "YES!"

So now your partner whom you have vowed to love and to cherish, is in her
delicate condition of pregnancy, and is about to give birth to your baby; wouldn't it be proper that you take part also in this momentous event that is slowly unfolding before your very eyes? Soon, you'll be a father, and being a father entails lots of responsibilities. A major responsibility is to take part in everything that your wife is involved with concerning your baby. You planted the seed, now take active part in nurturing it; attending childbirth classes is one way of doing it. What are the significant reasons why you should attend childbirth classes?

1.
Your presence would indicate to your partner that you want to share in the responsibility of parenthood. This would serve as a moral booster and a seal of your genuine love for her.

2.
You should also learn the technique because you have to be there with her in the delivery room, that is, if you really want to be part of your baby's delivery. Knowing what to do, would make you both less anxious and more self-confident.

3.
When you take active part in these pre-natal activities, you'll form a stronger bond with your wife and baby. Relationship bonds are strengthened by activities shared together.

4.
When you're a part of the hardships and difficulties of your partner, you'll learn to have more empathy and appreciation of what she undergoes. You'll be exposed to some portion of her "labor" and would realize that being a mother is not a bed of roses. When you're aware of this fact, you would understand her more.
If you understand her more, then there would be fewer fights in the future.

5.
Your partner needs your moral and spiritual support.
Your physical presence would be a good indicator that you support her. The physical presence of the husband is like magic; a woman in labor would be comforted considerably.

Marriage is a partnership. All responsibilities should be shared. You should live up to your marriage vows and accept the responsibilities that go with it. Go; attend the childbirth classes with your partner!
