Why Are Federal Jobs Better Than Private Sector?

The Perks of Having a Federal Job

Jonas Wilkerson
Federal jobs are better than private sector jobs for several reasons, but perhaps the most notable is that federal salaries are far better than private sector salaries. The ratio is almost two is to one as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In recent years the federal government has been outsourcing most of its low pay employment positions to contractors on a private basis resulting in the higher pay bracket and boosted overall hiring. There are a large number of federal jobs which earn higher pay, on average, than in equivalent positions in the private sector in for positions such as pharmacists, janitors, clerks, accountants and nurses. In addition to this, beyond the high salaries offered, federal jobs also add far better pension and healthcare benefits as per the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

When we take on federal jobs, we can expect help from the federal agencies in forms of student loans reaching up to $10,000 per year, and there is a strong sense of encouragement for those federal employees who would like to pursue their studies and complete post graduate courses. There is also the possibility of working overseas as there are more than fifty thousand federal employees that are in positions abroad. The US government has offices and other work sites all around the world.

The government also offers sophisticated training for experienced professionals that encourages them to learn more skills and develop their practice. These specific federal jobs programs are often geared toward doctors, dentists, lawyers and other highly skilled individuals. They are also in the highest paying bracket in federal jobs as stated by the Office of Personnel Management.

There are many other perks - in addition to pension and healthcare benefits - when considering applying for federal jobs. All federal holidays allocated by the government will be enjoyed by its employees in the form of time off. Apart from this, the federal government workers will get added privileges in being offered special discounts by selected stores on a wide range of products or services nationwide. Federal agencies also offer many scholarship possibilities each year in the form of student loans.

A career in the federal government is usually more secure and permanent than the one in the private sector. The protection offered by the civil service department makes getting fired from a job far more unlikely while working for the government than while with private companies, particularly those that do not have unions. So, those people who give lot of importance to security in their jobs will most likely opt for federal jobs.

And, finally, there is the pride you gain from contributing to the government and ongoing success of the great United States. And isn't that an exceptional benefit in and of itself?
