In that year, they have had the likes of Bob Barker, Ozzy Ozbourne, Cheech and Chong, Jeremy Piven, Don Johnson, Snoop Dogg, and countless others. However as of late, it appears that the guest hosts are appearing less frequently. And that, in every sense of reality, is a great thing. It means that WWE can finally get back to business without all the annoying segments that the fans are clearly not interested in.
A few weeks ago, Jon Lovitz attempted to do a poor attempt at a talent show. Well guess what Jon...it was done several months ago by Ozzie and Sharon! But since you apparently don't watch the product, you obviously didn't know that. Now before I start teeing off on the guest hosts, here's my only problem with the entire situation. Hardy any of the guest hosts know a thing about the business. And at that, they barely know enough to be considered for the spot. Jeremy Piven screwed up last August and said Summer Fest instead of SummerSlam.
Now Rob Zombie would've made an exception guest host. Except for that minor inconvenience of WWE going back to the PG rating. And anybody that knows the works of Rob Zombie knows that the PG rating isn't exactly his area of expertise. Now granted, there have been a select few guest hosts that have followed the business long enough to know the talent, the names of events, and are even somewhat aware of the storylines that were going on at the time of their appearance. However, the vast majority of them have no clue whatsoever. The only reason they are there is to boost their own ego and to push some movie or TV show that half the country probably won't watch because they already have their DVR set for something else.
WWE, I'm begging you...stop the nonsense! I just did a search on Wikipedia right before I started this article, looking up past guest hosts and future guest hosts. Florence Henderson (yes, of The Brady Bunch) is going to be guest hosting Raw on July 12 from Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Really? Last I heard, she was hosting her own TV talk show. So, we're taking airtime away from guys who bust it every night on the road for a talk show segment featuring somebody that knows no more about the business than I do about Adam Lambert's wardrobe? Well, I guess it makes about as much sense as anything else WWE has done lately.
Everything has gone from professional wrestling to this "sports entertainment" lately that the WRESTLING portion of World Wrestling Entertainment seems to almost be false advertisement. However there is a small ray of hope at the end of the tunnel. With the guest hosts apparently only being featured every other week instead of weekly, maybe the WWE can get back to the in-ring action and put more emphasis on the guys that want to be featured on a two-hour program. If a celebrity wants to push their tv show or movie, that's fine. Have them make a quick appearance, sit them front row like they do the NFL players in whatever city they're in, and make mention of the talk show circuit they will be working on to promote it.
Yes it's been awhile since I've been on a good rant. But this is an editorial/opinion column, and I'm invoking my Freedom of Speech clause. This probably won't be the last rant I go on in the near future. I'm keeping tabs on other bits and pieces of news that are just begging to be addressed, and I will be more than happy to make my side of the story crystal clear. Until then, I will retreat back to my quiet corner and wait for the next opportunity to lash out at someone or something. Who knows, I might even shock and surprise a few people and say something nice in the next piece. I'll try to contain the excitement though, because too much other stuff has to be taken care of first. Have a great week everybody, and you'll be hearing from me again soon.
