I test drove a 2007 PT Cruiser Touring Edition just 2 weeks ago, in a snow storm. I was actually pleasantly surprised. The PT Cruiser handled beautifully on the slick streets and it had more pick up and go than my previous Saturn. My fiancée which is 6'5 was comfortable for the first time in a car and like all the roominess. I also found that the stereo worked great and had sub woofers as a standard option. After I took it back to the dealer I looked at the trunk area. Although smaller than an SUV the back has a shelf that can hold up to 100 pounds which meant I could even separate my dogs if I wanted to, which is great! I was so enamored of the car that purchased it. The mileage is much better than an SUV, there are tons of gadgets like digital trip readouts, tachometer, and even a read out telling you how many miles you have left of gas. Also I found that insurance wise this is also a great find, my insurance barely went up.
What I find so interesting about this vehicle is that it is always a love or hate situation with the PT Cruiser. Either you love the car, or you really don't like it at all there is no middle ground. For me I believe this is because of the design being so unique outside and in that it doesn't allow for a median opinion. I know previous to driving in a PT Cruiser I was in the I don't like them at all clubs and now after 2 weeks of owning on I love it!
I had up until this point just drove and not really paid attention to my vehicle, yet now I find myself looking for the right seat covers and such for the PT Cruiser. Oddly enough I would have just passed by the vehicle myself only 3 weeks ago and now I find myself really enjoying the PT Cruiser and all its perks. This car may not be a Toyota or a Honda but it has a smooth ride, great inside space, and gets great gas mileage for a wagon/suv. This fits perfectly for my animals and expanding family and the outside has really grown on me as well. I find myself now on the side of the people that love the PT Cruiser.
