Why Glenn Roeder is the Right Man for Norwich City Football Club

James Kent
The current Norwich City management is coming into a lot of stick over Norwich's poor league position. It is true that managers are judged on their results, but Glenn Roeder hasn't had the opportunity to establish a team of his own. Yes, he has got rid of a lot of players, but due to the tight budget constraints he hasn't had the opportunity to buy the players he would like. Instead, Roeder has had to rely on the loan system. I would say all the players he has been able to bring in permanently have worked. It's true to say, they haven't all set the world alight but none of them have failed.

With the evidence stated above, it's difficult to see how fans can have expected the club to progress far under these circumstances. However, there are fans', which expect this club to be world beaters and because they are not their perception is Roeder has failed. I think those expectations are highly unrealistic. Change always takes time and in football it usually takes a lot of money. Glenn Roeder has not had change or money.

What Roeder has done is got rid of the dead wood and with a combination of loans and permanent signings established a decent squad. In addition to this he has also reworked the scouting network, taken a look at youth development, brought his own men in and at times, got the team playing some really good football. The signs are good, but there is still an awful lot of work to do.

Of course, there are always two sides to every story, and he has made a few mistakes. At times, he has over criticised players. He has also made some remarks that fans haven't liked, but from a personal point of view I think, fans can be over sensitive. Some people will also say releasing Darren Huckerby was a mistake, but that is a matter of opinion.

The way I look at this situation is Roeder isn't perfect, but he is the best man for Norwich City right now. He has plenty of good ideas, and I feel he knows what he's doing. I would urge fans to give the Glenn chance to get this right and giving the time, resources and support Glenn Roeder can be a very successful Norwich city manager.

Things change very quickly in football and I could equally now write an article on why Glenn Roeder is the wrong man as he clearly is.
