Goat's milk popularity is on the rise as this slightly sweet, somewhat salty and nutritious, alternative beverage to cow's milk is seen more in health food stores and supermarkets. Another goat milk product, climbing the skin-care ladder is goats' milk soap. A significant characteristic of this soap is its pH level, which is almost exactly the same pH level of the skin. Both of these products are finally being recognized for their benefits.

Nutritional Benefits

Goat milk has nutritional and health benefits. Nutritionally, goat milk is a rich source of protein which is important for building the structure of the body. It contains a good supply of minerals like phosphorous, calcium and potassium, as well as vitamins like riboflavin (vitamin B 2) and the amino acid tryptophan. These nutrients nourish the body and provide many health benefits.

A cup of goat's milk contains 498.7 mg of potassium and only121.5 mg of sodium. Potassium is essential in maintaining a normal blood pressure and proper heart functions. The calcium in goat's milk provides strong teeth and bones and helps with functions like blood clotting and muscle contractions.

Goat Milk Soap Benefits

Goat's milk soap contains caprylic, capric and caproic acids which works together to maintain the perfect pH (or acidity) for human skin and hair which according to Ayushveda website, for a normal adult is a pH value of between 4.5 and 6. Goat's milk provides the "acid mantle", which is a slightly acidic layer on the skin that acts as a neutralizer when the body is attacked by microbials like, bacteria and viruses and other contaminants.

Rejuvenates the Skin

Lactic and alpha hydroxyl acids in goat's milk work to remove old skin cells. They rejuvenate the skin giving it a clean, smooth, fresh and healthy glow. The moisturizing effects of goat's milk also protect the skin against dryness from the environmental rigors of the wind, and snow.
