Why God Does Not Exists
First let me clarify what I mean by "God": in this article when I say "God" I mean a monotheistic creator of the universe who interacts with humanity, wants us to believe in it, wants us to believe certain things and judges use when we die sending out souls to a heaven or a hell; basically the Jewish, Christians, Muslims gods and the gods of the variants of these religions. I know there are other god concepts out there but I am not dealing with those in this article. I will have to mention the other concepts and when I do I type it as "god" with a lowercase "g", when I type "God" with a uppercase "G" I will be talking about the specific god concept this article is dealing with.
As an atheist I lack a belief in a god or gods, as an agnostic I recognize that some god concepts are unfalsifiable but just because I am agnostic that doesn't mean I accept all things as possible, some things and concepts can be shown (with reasonable certainty) to be false when and they are I will not be agnostic toward them. When I say "God does not exist" I do not say it with absolute certainty I say is with reasonable certainty. To say anything with absolute certainty is foolish there is always the possibility that you are wrong however not all ideas are equal and some ideas are so implausible that they are effectively impossible and should be treated as such.
On to the actual arguments:
What would a world where God exists look like? Not like this one.
Such a world would have one religion, everyone would believe it and there would be no divisions within it. The largest religion (Christianity) is also an extremely fractured religion with approximately 38,000 denominations[1]. The second largest religion (Islam) is not as fractured as Christianity with most Muslims being Sunni[2] however it is still fractured and it is only the second largest religion, if its God existed it would be the only religion and would not be fractured.
Why would there be only one un-fractured religion? If an seemingly omnipotent God exists and this God cares what we believe, wants us to believe certain things (including it) and will judge us after death, it would do what it takes to convince us that it exists and would ensure that its religion would remain un-fractured. If a god or gods exist it/they either don't care what we believe, they don't want us to believe in them or they may be apathetic towards us.
What about free will? God would not have to violate our freewill in order to prove its existence to us. All God would only have to do is demonstrate its existence to us in a manner that would convince us. That would not requirer taking away or violating our freewill.
Any holy book for Gods religion would only have one version and it would be perfect with no internal contradictions, it would be 100% historically accurate and would accurately reflect reality accurately . No holy book (including the The Tanakh (Hebrew Bible), Christian bibles and Qu'ran) can claim these[3][4]. They all have internal contradictions, they are not historically accurate and they all have parts that contradict biology, physics and other observations of the world and universe.
Then there is the universe it self. It is big really, really big. The Earth is one of eight planets orbiting a not so unusual star in the orion arm[5] of the Milkyway galaxy which is in a cluster of galaxies called the Local Group which is part of a larger group called the Virgo Supercluster[6] which is part of the observable universe which is part of the universe as a whole and we don't know how big that is. The Milkyway contains an estimated 200 billion stars, there are an estimated 125 billion galaxies with 1021 stars in the universe[7][8] and the the size of the observable universe is estimated to be 156 billion lightyears across[9].
The surface aria of the earth is 510 million square kilometers, 149 million square kilometers of that is land[10]. The volume of the universe is roughly 198,7799 billion lightyears, a lightyear is 9.4605284 × 1012 kilometers[11]. The total land area of the Earth is only 7.92×10-17 percent (.00000000000000000792%) of the universe.
We are tiny. In the grand scheme of things we are insignificant. Given our insignificance why would the creator of the universe care about us as a species let alone care about what we think and do?
On the subject of scale: God is supposed to be omnipotent (but omnipotence is logically impossible (could an omnipotent being create a stone too heavy for it to lift) however is is conceivable that there could be a being so powerful that (to us) it seems omnipotent). Imagine the gulf between us and such a being. How far beyond us it would such a being be?
To help in this I've invited a scale. The scale is based on reason (the ability to make conclusions base on information), knowledge (the amount of information a creature has), understanding (a creatures ability to understand the knowledge it has) and power (a creatures ability to manipulate the environment around it). In this scale social insects are at level 1 and humans are at level 2. A level 3 would be to us as we are to social insect, a level 5 would be to level 3 as level 3 is to social insects. At what level would God be? 100? 1,000? 10,000? Given that we would be insects in comparison to a level 3 a level 10 would seem god like in ability and a level 100 would be an order of magnitude higher than a level 10. Would a level 3 creature care about us as a species let alone us as individuals? Do you care about the lives of insects?
Could I be wrong? Of course I can. I could be insane, deluded, blinded by a demon but I could be living in the Matrix, this whole world could be a dream of mine or I could be the someone else's delusion. Some ideas are so absurd that they are not worth considering. Given the way the world is the idea of God is absurd, too absurd to be worth considering.
