Why God Punishes Evil when He Has Given Us Free Will

Christina Armani
God gave us free will, but we can distinguish between good and evil. God even says that our free will comes at a price. God gives us free will to follow him and gain heaven, or follow Satan and gain hell. God gave us free will because choosing God is meaningful and being forced isn't. God punishes evil because evil must be punished. If God doesn't punish evil, evil would be seen as acceptable when it isn't despite the choice. God will never sit back and let evil win for good. Free will doesn't imply that there are no consequences for the things we do and say.

God punishes us for the same reasons that parents or guardians punish us, because they love us and care about us. Our parents are enforcers and authority figures and can't let us get away with anything. When a parent or guardian punishes us, it's because they don't want us to do bad or evil things. Parents and guardians want us to think about our actions and realize that we can't do whatever we want, and so does God.

God gave us a list of commandments and sins and put them in the Bible. God gave us these sins and commandments for a reason. He also just didn't put them in there for the sake of putting them in there. Of coarse there are going to be punishments for doing things that God specifically tells us not to do. God is good and against evil, so of coarse he's going to punish evil and not let it run rampant forever. God has to punish evil because he needs us to know that evil doesn't pay.

There is a fine line between right and wrong, and God will punish you if you cross that line. God is always fair, but he's always righteous and just. God knows what all our sins are, and we will be put on trial for them one day. Christ did die for our sins on the cross, but that doesn't mean we can do whatever we want and always be forgiven. God knows what's in our hearts, and evil hearts will be punished while good hearts will be rewarded. God is there to help us to overcome temptation, and he wants to give us strength to fight temptation, so why shouldn't we be punished for giving into temptation? We're all going to be held accountable for our personal choices on judgment day.
