The second round of the playoffs started last night as the Warriors started their match with the Utah Jazz and it would be anything but easy, yet the Dallas Mavericks were much better on paper than the Jazz, well obviously. While the Golden State Warriors had the exact ingredient to defeat the Mavs, which was to just run them down and allow their low post presence to basically not be used, I mean even Dirk Nowitski had trouble getting his shots off, which is very surprising to see. As the game rolled on tonight, I was expecting to see a fairly low scoring first half. I mean, after I saw the Warriors run and gun or hustle and flow all over the Mavericks, I figured that one team had to have something to stop the Warriors assault, but it definitely didn't appear that way.
As the first quarter ended last night, the score was 37-35 Utah, which is very rare in every way possible to see, but it definitely did happen. The Utah Jazz were having just as much trouble controlling the Warriors as the Mavs did, so it obviously was going to be a long night. When I took a break from watching the tube to head out for a bit, I tuned back in around 4:00 left in the second quarter and come half time the score was a heavy 66-63 Warrior lead. Now, I know you all are not blind out there, but this is typical Warrior basketball and there would probably be no way that the Jazz could keep up with this pace in the second half, unless the scoring pace slowed down severely, which it did.
When I saw the second half of the game, I knew exactly what happened to the Warriors, the pace of the game slowed down as the defense of Utah improved, which simply shut down the power of the Warriors, yet they still kept finding ways to score. I must have seen a hundred lead changes in this game, okay I am just kidding, but there were a lot of them. I knew that once I saw three quarters of close competition that it would be a classic "barn burner". Going wire to wire, these two teams were duking it out, and even though the pace wasn't exactly the Warriors usual, they still kept digging deep. The Utah Jazz ended winning the game by four measly points, but a win is a win. Let me tell you that the score was 116-112 and that the total point scored in the second half was 30 less than in the first half. I could tell you that if this game were to be a 245\250+ total scoring game, the Warriors would have beaten the Jazz by more than 10 points.
It's simple mathematics that can figure out why a team like the Golden State Warriors lose games, especially ones that should have literally been won, but it is no joke that the Warriors can beat the Utah Jazz and move on in the NBA Playoffs. It is no joke that they can also win the NBA Finals and capture the Championship. Even though the motivation might have been let down a little bit, the Jazz still have to travel back to Golden State, which is way more in favor of the Golden State Warriors rather than the Utah Jazz, even if the Jazz were home, since the fans are 150 % more rowdy than the ones in Utah.
With Baron Davis suffering with a minor injury that is slowing him down a bit, his team mates are really coming through, if by any chance he can nurse that injury and get back to above 95 %, the Warriors will win the series against Utah, that much I can tell you all. Baron Davis is simple playing like an MVP in the Post Season and if he continues to shine, I would like to introduce these guys in the NBA Finals. Now the winner of the Utah\Golden State would have to play the winner of the Sun and Spurs, but seeing that I pick the Warriors to win the series, they would have to put it all on the line against a team like the Spurs or the Suns. How fun would it be to see a Golden State\Suns series. The Golden State Warriors average 106.5 points per game, while the Phoenix Suns average 110.2 points per game, it would simple be a scoring fest, and I think the Warriors would have a better chance of beating the Suns rather than the Spurs.
Whatever the case may be, the Warriors are one hot team and for an underdog, they are definitely my choice to win the NBA Finals. I am from New Jersey and am a NJ Nets fan and I would love to see them in the finals, but if they went up against the Golden State Warriors at only 97.6 points per game, I'm afraid they would be a bit outmatched, but then again anything is still possible. This 2007 NBA Playoffs is very entertaining and it's only going to get a lot more entertaining, so sit back and enjoy this very large thrill ride!

Post a CommentWell for starters (and this is going to sound like a jab from a Pistons fan so I am sorry) the Nets really have no shot at the Finals this year. Maybe if Kristic was healthy, but not as they are right now. The Warriors are fun to watch and I've been watching them all season whenever I can. But if the Phoenix Suns are a team of "organized chaos" then the Warriors are simply a team of chaos. And whether it be the Jazz (who beat GS in a game where everything went by the plan for Nellie), the Suns or the Spurs, the Warriors will find themselves against a better team. I wouldn't mind seeing them in the Finals, but only because they would be the most ideal of the four West teams for my Pistons to face.
