Why Hardcore Gamers Hate the Nintendo Wii

Otter
The Nintendo Wii is the fastest-selling video game system ever. At the same time, it is also one of the most hated, especially in the minds of the so-called hardcore gamers. The gaming enthusiast press constantly blasts the Nintendo Wii while the system remains wildly popular to the mass media. So why is this case? Here are a few contributing factors as to why hardcore gamers hate the Nintendo Wii.

Graphics
Hardcore gamers care a lot about how a game looks. Thus, they were disappointed when Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Wii is only slightly more powerful than the Nintendo Gamecube. To further add to the problem, most developers chose not to push the hardware to the limits. As a result, most games look bad even when compared to Gamecube titles. With little visually stunning games, the Nintendo Wii became hated by hardcore gamers.

Wii Remote
A control can make or break a video game for many hardcore gamers. Instead of creating another traditional control pad for the Wii, Nintendo opted for Wii Remote. While the causal audience instantly fell in love with the new motion controller, hardcore gamers hated the lack of accuracy. Because they have to wrestle with the Wii Remote, the gaming experiences felt hindered. Still, the Wii Remote became so popular that Sony and Microsoft are even planning to releases their own version for their consoles. Since it hasn't been proven that motion controllers can be just as accurate as button pushes, many hardcore gamers hated the new trend started by Nintendo and the Wii.

Casual Movement
A big part of the Nintendo Wii's success is due to its massive causal fan abse. This usually consists of dads, little kids, women and the elderly. On the other hand, the hardcore gamer audience usually composes of male teens and young adults. Naturally, the wild popularity of the Nintendo Wii to the causal audience leads to unjustified hate from hardcore gamers.

Lack of Hardcore Games
At the end of the day, hardcore gamers care about video games the most. This is where the Nintendo Wii is severely lacking. Because of the massive casual audience, Nintendo had to focus development of causal games instead of hardcore ones. As a result, hardcore games developed by Nintendo on the Nintendo Wii are few and far between. To further spew the hatred from hardcore gamers, many third-party developers decided to continually skip the Nintendo Wii in favor of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. With very little hardcore games on the system, it should be no surprise that many hardcore gamers hate the Nintendo Wii.

Ooooooooo You guys are definitely hard core. I'm scared. I'm way more hardcore than you fags. I've been playing games since NES and you guys just picked up an xbox and all of a sudden you're hardcore? Haha please.

Hahaha I totally prefer 360 to the Wii. Yes, I have played it before, but I don't like the idea of flailing my arms about, I'm too shy. Besides, 360 is more like the system I grew up with -Nintendo 64- I know, nerdy huh?

Hardcore gamers in general are slowly getting flushed out of the market. While its obvious that the HD twins have more hardcore games than the Wii, they mostly consist of RPGs and FPSs. While technically hardcore, this really does alienate a marginal amount of hardcore gamers. They then get replaced with what the modern conception of a "hardcore gamer" is. Its not to say that people who play RPGs and FPSs aren't hardcore gamers; But you only succeed in shrinking the demographic by limiting the options.

If you look at any thing hardcore you will not see many of them dump what came before unless they are fanboys..... Fanboys are what is truely wrong with gaming and other things that experienced a down turn because they began to only cater to certain types of people instead of the whole.

Because nintendo does this the hardcore titles are ignored along with the virtual console which is full of classic.

There is also a very telling sign that HD gaming has flushed out what is bad in gaming.... companies are shutting down because of it.... It is almost as if a platform has been created to milk the so called wanna be hardcore gamers for all they are worth, while the true hardcore have a Wii and the new hardcore are getting a wii. Hardcore gamers don't bash the very thing that they love they show people great new games reguardless of the platform.

Seriously the fans of the HD console are almost the sole reason why their system of choice is not doing what the wii is doing.

Hardcore gamers did not care about graphics when they where playing the PS1, and 2.

What is needed is more ondustry support. Every one knows gamers will go with the platform where the games go.

This is the sole reason why the xbox 360 is even in this race and why the PS2 or even the PS3 is even given a chance. They have big publisher support.

If this changes due to the fact that the recession is not over and games like MW2 along with other title do not sell as well as publisher though we may see more Wii support.

Seriously hardcore gamers love the Wii. You want me to tell you why? because true hardcore gamer do not dump the past out so easliy. The HD system have yet to paint them selves as true consoles gaming machine. Instead the seem to be sub PC platforms. Just look at the games that are being pushed on those games. These are the same games that killed PC gaming because they only really rely on graphics.

If you look at any thing hardcore you will not see many of the

scruffmoney... you are so ignorant it's almost tragic. Why do you waste so much time bashing the most popular console on the market, when you could be playing cool games instead?! I bet you've never even played games on a Wii before, because I have news for you... they are actually quite cool, and if you had just a little grey matter left in your huge melon on top of your shoulders, you wouldn't mention anything about Wii games being bad. Of course you can find some bad ones, but that is the same on both PS3 and Xbox 360. There are a lot of cool Wii games with cool graphics.

But graphics alone don't make games. As an example I would like to point out "Killzone 2" which was hyped as the killer-app for the PS3. Give me a break... yes... very realistic graphics and cool music + sound effects, but after playing it for an hour it gets extremely boring and repetitive. Another example... and this is on the PS2: God of War 1 and 2... those games looked amazing AND they had huge amounts of g

wow a article that was not full of crap.
congratz i dident think it was possible.
the wii is a overpriced console with motion controlls tacked on, nintentdo were 5 years to late.
if the wii came out in 2004 it would of been massive, before both the ps3 and 360 it would of sold much better, and would of been seen as a step forwards in consoles instead of a step backwards.

well i grew up playing the best consoles in the world%2C the 16 and 32 bit era%2C and ive been doing it for over 25 yrs now. my son does own a wii%2C and i like playing it once in awhile. but i look back at what Nintendo USED to be%2C and i hate the way they are now. ive changed along with the game industry over the years%2C and i really cant do without my nice hi-def 50 inch tv%2C or my PS3. Nintendo does have a few good games%2C but they are pathetic compared to the next gen games that are coming out. does Conduit compare to Modern Warfare 2%3F Uncharted 2%3F God of War 3%3F Last Gaurdian%3F Im sick and tired of Nintendo%27s lack of technology%2C and the way a game looks does make a difference. I liked them better back in the 16 bit days%2C i grew up in that era%2C and i still play the classics to this day. its a hell of a lot better than what they have now%2C both in terms of games and graphics%2C of course back then 16 bit games looked good to me lol. it coomes down to the fact tha

Dear God, go play Metroid Prime Trilogy, or The Conduit and see how insanely intuitive the Wiimote can be. To me, duel analogue is a step backwards.

Anyone who says the Wii has no good games is either completely blind or just trying to be ignorant. I can name a whole bunch of brilliant titles on the platform. For everyone who still wants to believe the Wii has no good games, I compiled a list for you; Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3 (or now, MPT), Brawl, Mario Kart: Wii, Madworld, House of the Dead: Overkill, Okami, Deadly Creatures, The Conduit, Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, COD5, Punch Out, No More Heroes, World of Goo, Super Paper Mario. Should I keep going?

I by no means blindingly love Nintendo, I own a PS3 as well and love it to bits. It's just I refuse to admit that just because I have one console means I'll suddenly believe the others "suck".

"wrong, sony had start working on their motion controller way before the wii was out"
Really? Nintendo has been working on the Wii as far back as 2001. Sony mustn't be very efficient if 8 years later they've still got nothing to show...
