Why I Hate Victoria's Secret

Jody Morse
Victoria's Secret has got to be the most well known lingerie store in the United States. No one can deny the fact that the bras and lingerie which can be found at Victoria's Secret are both stylish and sexy. I must admit that I have shopped at Victoria's Secret many times before it took me to realize that I really hate almost everything about this lingerie store. Here, I will tell you some of the many reasons that I believe Victoria's Secret is overrated.

Victoria's Secret is Very Overpriced

I think that every item that Victoria's Secret has to offer is pretty overpriced. I know that bras seem to be expensive but while the average bra that you would find at a department store such as JcPenney's or Kohl's costs about $20, the average bra that you would find at a Victoria's Secret store is about $40. Why would I want to spend $40 on a bra, when I can one that will fit just as comfortably and possibly look just as appealing from another department store? Their swimsuits are also expensive, though there are other stores which sell very expensive swimsuits also. I guess that swimsuits are just an expensive item in general. Victoria's Secret's clothing catalogue offers some very nice - and extremely pricey - clothing. While the catalogue has a lot of nice clothes, each piece is typically about $40, more or less. I personally do not want to spend that much on a basic, solid colored t-shirt only because it came from Victoria's Secret. As a frugal shopper, I refuse to purchase out of the Victoria's Secret catalogue - though I would probably be a frequent shopper of it if the prices were lower.

Victoria's Secret Bras are Lacking in Quality

The first time that one of the bras which I had purchased from Victoria's Secret had its wire come out after a month or so of wearing it, I didn't think anything of it. I have had that happen with bras from other stores, though I must say that the bras from other stores lasted a lot longer. Once the second bra, third bra and so on began to lose their wiring, I was a bit disappointed. At first, I thought that it might have been something that I was doing to my Victoria's Secret bras, but other people have told me that they've had the same problem. I have also heard that a lot of people have problems with the bras from Victoria's Secret unclipping themselves, though I have not ever had this problem myself. Apparently, the overall quality of Victoria's Secret bras must not be too good, or everyone wouldn't have the same problem with the wire coming out of them or the bras unclipping themselves.

Victoria's Secret Employees are Not too Friendly

Of course, I realize that the friendliness of Victoria's Secret employees is going to vary depending upon location. In general, however, I have noticed that the people who work at Victoria's Secret are usually not only very unfriendly, but they also are pretty unwilling to help you out. Whether it was because I had to exchange something or I just wanted to know what an unmarked price of a bra was, I have yet to find one friendly, helpful Victoria's Secret worker.

Victoria's Secret Has a Reputation of "Bad Fitting"

When you get fitted at Victoria's Secret to find out your bra size, you can expect that it will be very inaccurate. I have personally been fitted at Victoria's Secret only to find that it was very inaccurate after I purchased bras in the size that I was told I was (go figure), and I know many others who have also gone through this problem as well. My belief is that this happens because the Victoria's Secret employees often have no experience with measuring for sizes, so when they do it, they end up getting it wrong. I would highly recommend you to go somewhere else if you choose to get fitted.

As you can see, there are many reasons that I personally have for hating Victoria's Secret. While they are often very fashionable, I do not believe that the high price that you pay is worth the low quality of Victoria's Secret bras.

Okay, they have all these designs and whatever, and they look really good....FOR SMALLER WOMEN. They BARELY have ANY bras for larger women, AND you HAVE TO get them online, since they don't carry them in store. Why is that? The only size they don't carry in the store is DDD, and when they told me to look online for them, I did, and I barely saw any results. It was like 4 DDD bras available, and I'm serious. I was like, this blows. You have all these nice designs for skinnier girls, yet us heavier breasted girls HAVE to buy online and pay extra for something nice, and the designs for those aren't NEARLY as nice as the others? I guess bras aren't made equal when it comes to Victoria Secret.

My only regret is getting a VS card. They have sucked so much of my money from bs fees

Actually VS clothing is not made in China...most of it is from India, although I do agree there may be bad fittings (they have a high roll over for employees and truth is alot haven't had the experience) when you do find people who have worked there long enough they will find you a bra that fits. I've never had a bra fall apart because I wear my CORRECT size! The bras WONT last if they DONT FIT YOU. duh. Also, even if you get "your size" it doesn't mean every bra fits the same! push up is obviously going to "push" you out of your size a little so you have to experiment. I don't buy bras from any other store because those bras do not last me more than a few months.

I see where Victoria's Secret has promoted a look that is self perpetuating. The flagship "Wonderbra" does nothing more than create the profile of a boob job. Those are the only breasts that would be that round and unnatural. Wearing a wonderbra gives one the appearance of having had surgery which only has one cosmetic drawback...too round. But Victoria's Secret has made this robotic form their own and acceptable.

The company has the same sales just like any other department store you can still get a bra for under 20$ if you come at the right time. The same is said for bathing suits as well and clothing. Although you may seem to think there isn't a difference in reality there is. Just wear VS bra's for 2 years vs. leading department store brands.

I agree that their products are expensive and poor quality. I call them the Ikea of lingerie! Their perfumes smell like alcohol (some of their lipsticks are nice, though). Once I bought a leather bag from them and it smelled awful, like fish. It was so smelly that when we were in the hotel I had to put it in a closet or it would have smelled up the entire room! As for their bras -- they're called "fashion bras" for a reason -- if you're over a B cup, they don't give much support at all!

They should stop spending money on all those supermodels and concentrate on improving the quality of their products.

My girlfriend and I went bra and bathing suit shopping at Victoria's Secret. Normally, I would wait out by the change rooms and she would call me to poke my head in and let her know what I thought.

Apparently, ALL change room areas in Victoria's secret are women only and the only compromise they could give is to give her a robe so she could come out to the middle of the store and flash me (as well as everybody else) to get my opinion.

I feel bad, she's quite self conscious, and it was very embarrassing and degrading for her to do that. After talking to a manager, they at least let us stand next to the bathrooms (which is pretty gross unto itself) so she didn't have to show the whole shopping floor.

You think they'd have at least a couple of change rooms where men would be allowed to poke their heads into. Even though they gave us a $25 gift card, we're never going back.

I am a VS fanatic I live in Ohio where the company originated from I go to Easton Columbus alot to shop I've been to the VS in New York next to the Macy's and it's fabulous. I've shopped at VS for years, I've never paid full price for a bra from there. I've noticed different places where their product is made. I've never had a bra fall apart on me and I have over 100 bras and panties. The only problem I had was they act as if they want to be selfish about sending out catalogs. Everyone has their own opinion and I get angry with them on occasion but not enough to hate them. I have a fetish and VS is my fetish. Hands up on that one.
