Why Having a Blog Can Improve Your Earnings

The Impact Your Blog Can Have on How Much Money Your Writing Can Bring You

JR
If you're a writer, having a blog could and should be about so much more than just venting and talking about your day-to-day life. Earning money from online writing in most cases depend on how many people read your articles. Blog can help you get more readers and improve your earnings.

Yes, you can get paid for an article you've written (Upfront Payment on Associated Content, Marketplace at Helium), but you can also receive what Associated Content calls 'Performance Payments', which is simply money made on the ads displayed with your article.

So it goes without saying that the more readers you have the more money you can earn. But that doesn't apply only to the Performance Payments. When publishers see that an author is popular, comes up high in the search engine, they might be willing to pay more for the author's articles.

How does your blog factor in?

As a blogger you already have a certain amount of readers. They might be your friends, or total strangers who somehow stumbled upon your blog. You might only have a personal blog or you might be one of those writers who like to document their adventure with freelance writing in a separate blog, dedicated just to their writing.

Either way it's always very good to link you what you've written and invite people to read your articles. Few more cents on the Performance Payment might not seem like a lot, but a constant exposure is what turns a reader into a person who will subscribe to your feed and read articles they're not interested in, just because you're the one who wrote them. And regular readers are more likely to send others your way.

Another thing worth mentioning is that every active link that goes to your writing profile or an article you've written is helping your work perform better in search engines. It's not a secret that heavy linked material always appears higher on the list. And I can speak from my own experience, articles that I link to from my writing blog, perform far better than those I don't mention at all.

And don't think the opportunities to link to your work end with a post announcing the publication. Every time you write about the same or similar topic, you should be able to link to relevant articles you wrote in the past. Even if it's just a mention along the lines of "I've written about this issue before" or "I've covered it also in".

While linking to your work in your entries is usually the best way to get exposure, you shouldn't forget about the sidebar and the navigation bar of your blog. It's the best place to link you all your writing profiles on various sites and implant a feed that would show your latest work...

When it comes to using your blog to promote your writing and earn more money you should use your imagination. You know best what it is you want to achieve. Simply don't dismiss your blog just because it doesn't bring you any direct income. Blog can be a powerful tool when it comes to advertising yourself. So go for it!
