The answer to this question is simple yet complicated. Each employer may want an answer that suits his requirements. So to get employed you must only answer him what he wants to hear from you. Making a funny remark or giving him a monotonous answer, might just get you in trouble. He is just another human like you, waiting to get impressed by a person full of enthusiasm and intelligence.
For them to hire you, you have to be very patient and understand what they need from you. Sometimes it just happens that the company's human resource managers are yelling about the qualities that they are looking for in their employees. In such a situation, you need to pay attention to every word that they are saying . Try to catch the words they repeat frequently . Most times those are the words you must repeat to psychologically satisfy them, telling them that you know what they are talking about. Also try highlighting your qualities immediately after you have used those words.
If the job you are applying for is a labor intensive job, then you must put forward qualities that sound like you are a strong laborer. For instance you can say that you are a hardworking person who can nullify the pressure, this job is going to put you through, as you have always been under pressure in your previous job. The person listening to you will now be satisfied at a psychological level because he heard you speaking what he wants you to speak. Every job might have a different challenge to handle, and that's the key point in deciding what quality to put forward.
No matter what ever you tell the interviewer, just try to avoid adding fluff to your conversation. Get to the point, and stick around it. Telling a story will not help in this case. Make a great image about yourself in the eyes of the interviewer. Let him know how different you are from other people. Tell him that you know the company very well and can give what the company needs. Take your act a step ahead by being humble and polite throughout the interview. Smile often and maintain eye contact, and you should get passed the interview. After all the things you did to get selected, if you didn't, just move on with a smile. Maybe he is still watching you!
