Why Holidays Are Not Important

I am going to start off with Easter. So what is the traditional custom when it comes to this holiday? Gather family around, attend church on Sunday, paint eggs for egg hunts, make little baskets with fake grass, and invite someone to your house with a rabbit suit on?! What kind of nonsense is that? Does anyone know the significance of Easter hunts? What is the point of painting eggs and putting them in baskets? Where did this bunny come from? Does anyone stop to think and say, 'Why am I celebrating this holiday? So I suppose people find this to be part of a tradition in their families? I believe that Easter is not important because very few people know the real meaning behind Easter. Does it not feel like a waste of time to do all these necessary things? What does it teach your children? Do you really want them to grow up believing in nothing? Why celebrate it when there is a clouded meaning behind it?

"Trick or Treat !" How many times have you heard that? Halloween is known for people dressing in costumes, going door to door asking for candy, and pumpkins. Do you also know that murders rise during this holiday? Why is that? Halloween is especially not important because evil spirits are attracted to all of the costumes, 'haunted houses', and bad intentions. There is nothing good to come out of kids dressing up in costumes, getting questionable candy and thinking its all in good fun. Strangers put things in candy sometimes, with fatal results. Depending on what costume you wear, you will attract attention to you, good and bad. Some people get arrested. It's best just not to celebrate this holiday at all. Why? What is the point in it all? What is there to gain from this holiday? Does anyone take the time to explain to their kids that this is a pagan holiday? Where did pumpkins come from? Were pumpkins added later just for color during Halloween? Do the words 'All Hallows Eve' sound like its a day to be called a holiday?

Christmas is starting to become advertised as early as September. Why is that? Is it a clever marketing ploy to remind you to make your purchases early? Ensuring that your money is invested for Christmas? Are the trees, decorations, presents, stockings, carols, Christmas dinners, and giving to charity for one day really necessary? Remember, with all of this comes stress, headaches, a bigger waist, a lot of dishes to wash, road trips, and piling family onto a plane. Not to mention a huge credit card bill afterwards. Is this American tradition really that important? Is it a big excuse just to get your family together at least once a year? December 25 is not important because society urges you in a way to follow the norm. But what really is the whole purpose of Christmas? Does anyone know what it really all means? Or is it just a mix-up of traditions from around the world rolled into one holiday? If Jesus was supposedly born on December 25, (which is what most people are celebrating,) how is that possible? The Bible says that he was born in a manger. Obviously, this is located outside, so he would not have been born in the cold, that would not make any sense. And the addition of Santa Claus, what does that have to do with Jesus?

In America, February 14 is designated as Valentine's day. People send each other cards with love notes written on them, and often, candy as well. It is a day associated with love. Unfortunately, Valentine's Day is not important because it is a successful example of good marketing and commercialization. So in effect, most of Valentine's Day was made up. Originally, it was named after a Saint Valentine, who was executed. Centuries later, love, cards, flowers and candy was added later on as a way to make money. With death associated with Valentine's Day, where does love fit in?

The word holiday really means 'holy day', reserved for special religious days. Why is it associated with Halloween, and Valentine's Day? Now the word holiday means you're going on vacation or taking a break from your job. Are holidays really designated just for friends and family? Why are we, as a society, molded in such away to do so? Wouldn't it be better to visit family more often, on a regular basis?
