Why Home Depot is a Great Place to Shop

Ode to Home Depot

Karen Francis
My obsession with Home Depot started in the early 90's when I purchased my first home in Richmond, Virginia. I recall the excitement that I felt the first time I walked into a Home Depot. It was like I was a kid again and Christmas had come early. There was a wonderful smell of fresh pine wood and the isles seem to go on as far as the eye could see. My favorite section of the store is the Home Decor section as I love experimenting with new colors and coming up with fresh new design ideas. I currently reside in Lawrenceville, Georgia and my neighborhood store is located at 875 Lawrenceville Suwanee Road, NW, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043.

Home Depot is more than just a store for the guys to try out the latest lawn mower or purchase a tool kit. Home Depot is a great place for us ladies to for design inspiration. That's right for all you aspiring interior decorators and designers, Home Depot has wonderful decor for your home that includes oriental carpets, art, beautiful light fixtures and lovely fountains for your garden.

I recall my first DIY project that I took on all by myself. I wanted to make my backyard a sanctuary, so I decided to build a patio made out of my favorite flagstone and pebbles. I had a pool in the backyard, so I thought that this would make the transition from the pool to inside the home at lot cleaner. The first thing I did was go to my local Home Depot in Virginia at that time and I purchased 100 flagstone tiles and 25 bags of pebbles, sand and spacers. Now that I had all of my materials it was time to lay the foundation. I had the area where my new patio would be mowed and then used weed killer to kill the grass. Once I had that area saturated with chemicals, it was time to lay the black tarp on top of the treated area. The purpose for this is to assist in the killing of the grass and weeds in that area so that you can have a smooth surface to work on.

Once I had the ground leveled I poured the sand and made sure with my level that it was properly done. When I realized that the ground was now leveled I began placing the flagstone tile by tile and placing spacers in between to make sure that I had the desired design. I finished off the project in a weekend and was extremely pleased with the outcome. I had created a wonderful patio that allowed my family to enjoy the pool and keep my den area free of grass and dirt soil from the backyard. Visit your neighborhood Home Depot and find your own inspiration. .
