The desire to justify home schooling, however, doesn't mean you have to know every detail of the home schooling process. You can simply take refuge in knowing that, for every argument against home schooling, there is a counterargument in favor of it.
Other parents may never be in favor of home schooling, but you can justify home schooling with a few simple ideas.
Home Schooling and Social Influence
"Doesn't it seem counterproductive to a child's success in school to remove the child from the influence of supportive friends?"
This argument against home schooling can be countered with ideas which further illuminate and justify the decision to home school.
For example, aren't students who are home schooled more safe from bullies? Don't home schooled children escape the problems of overcrowded schools where it's impossible to get the personal attention they need?
And, while it's true that children who are home schooled might miss their friends, these students are also offered the chance to know their parents and siblings better because these people form the basic coterie of social influence.
Home Schooling and Effective Learning
"How can children learn effectively in a home school situation when there is the tendency to procrastinate about homework and the parents are not qualified teachers?"
This second argument which opposes home schooling can be countered with more simple facts which justify home schooling your child.
For example, it has been shown that home schooled children learn more quickly because they don't feel they are in competition with other students. Their only focus is on the coursework and on doing the best they can.
Effective learning for home schooled students is also made possible because parents can give their children undivided attention. Parents who home school can immediately know which academic subject is most challenging to the child instead of waiting to read teacher evaluations.
Home school learning can also be justified with the argument that home school tests are more difficult and are monitored by licensed teachers.
In sum, not all parents are in favor of home schooling because it is linked with unique social and academic elements which they don't understand.
For every argument against home schooling, however, there is one in favor of it.
It's up to you to decide.
