Why a Husband or Boyfriend Doesn't Update His Relationship Status on Facebook and MySpace: Introduction

Facebook and MySpace, as well as other social networking sites aren't just for teenagers. People of all ages are on these sites which may spell trouble for relationships and marriages for some when a boyfriend or husband doesn't disclose the "truth" about his relationship status under the options given. Online social sites such as Facebook and MySpace are meant for people to stay in touch with others, meet new people, or even reconnect with people from his or her past. Let's look at some reasons why a husband or boyfriend doesn't change his Facebook or MySpace relationship status.

Why a Husband or Boyfriend Doesn't Update His Relationship Status on Facebook and MySpace: He Doesn't Take the Internet Seriously or Doesn't Know How to Change the Status

Quite honesty, some men don't care about filling out all the tidbits that come with Facebook or MySpace. His relationship status may simple be blank or say single because he looks at it as it's only the internet or he doesn't even know how to change the relationship status under the options. If a husband or boyfriend treats his girlfriend or wife great in "real life" then the relationship status of his on MySpace or Facebook shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Why a Husband or Boyfriend Doesn't Update His Relationship Status on Facebook and MySpace: He Doesn't Want Someone or Some People to Know

Another possibility why a husband or boyfriend doesn't update or change his relationship status is that he likes to not broadcast his personal business on the internet. Sites like MySpace and Facebook have updates or news feeds that tell other users when someone has updated those functions. On Facebook, if a couple breaks up then the relationship status is broadcast to everyone with the couple's names saying that they ended their relationship. Who would want that?

A husband or boyfriend may not disclose his true relationship status on Facebook or MySpace because he may not want a particular person or persons to know that are on his friends list. This could be an ex girlfriend from the past, the ex girlfriend's friends, or he may just be unsure of announcing the relationship status on his profile because the relationship is fairly still new.

Why a Husband or Boyfriend Doesn't Update His Relationship Status on Facebook and MySpace: He's Keeping His Options Open

Yes, some men use sites such as Facebook and MySpace to meet women as a dating or "hookup" tool. If a boyfriend or husband doesn't update his relationship status then there is the possibility that he is keeping his options open by appearing single online. The best remedy to seek out the truth is to casually ask and why he hasn't changed the relationship status. If the husband or boyfriend refuses or hesitates then it may be time to do some self reflecting on the marriage or relationship.

In my recent relationship. My Boyfriend had his status on myspace as "in a relationship" then going 6 months into our relationship. He changed it to "single". Then on his facebook he plays around with his staus alot. first it was " single" then when we got together, he puts " relationship". Not to long ago I noticed it said "single". Now it's nowhere to be seen. Of course my relationship is on the rocks. Due to the fact that I found he's insecure with himself. Of course he also has an ex as his friend on facebook. So in my situation. Due to his actions it surely showed even online.

You have neglected to mention the reason I do not update my relationship status: I don't want my facebook page to be the final word on the status of my relationship, nor do I want the fact that I'm forgetful and don't care about my facebook page to cause any confusion - I forgot to remove my relationship status after a rather bad breakup, and when I did remove it two weeks later she thought that we had had some chance, and that my status was sign that I didn't feel it was totally over. This led to more fighting and since I have decided that using facebook as the meter for my relationship is neither wise nor worth it.
