Why I'll Return to Pancho Villa Mexican Restaurant in Fredericksburg, Virginia

This weekend we set off to try a different restaurant in the Fredericksburg Central Park shopping center. After much debate, we decided on Mexican food. We noticed that there were three to pick from. There may have been more close-by but we finally decided on Pancho Villa.

When we entered the restaurant we were promptly greeted and seated. We went around 1:00 pm and there was hardly anyone inside. The restaurant was nice and quiet inside. Our server was very helpful and friendly. She immediately brought out chips and salsa. While my husband and daughter enjoyed the salsa, I thought it contained a bit too much cilantro.

We skipped ordering an appetizer since we already had the chips to snack on. My husband and I both selected combination platters. My husband selected the chili relleno and a tostado platter. I selected the "create your own two combination" combo platter and chose the beef enchilada and beef tamale. Both of the platters came with rice and beans. Our six year old daughter ordered off of the kids menu and choose the taco and burrito selection. She didn't care for the burrito; it was filled with just the refried beans. It had also had a small amount of cheese on top but nothing inside. She did enjoy her taco though and said she should have ordered two tacos. My tamale was really to "bready" and way too spicy. The enchilada didn't have melted cheese over it either, or if it did I missed it all together. My husband had no complaints about his food and enjoyed it immensely.

For dessert our daughter decided on the churros and my husband and I split the fried ice cream. The churros were not what my daughter expected. (She was used to the ones at Disney and they were nothing like them.) In the restaurants defense though, they were tasty. There was definitely no complaint about the fried ice cream.

Prices for the combination platters were very reasonable and serving sizes was just right. The entrees were a little pricey but did contain more expensive items such as steak or seafood. The chili relleno and tostado combo was $7.95 and my combo was $8.25. Mine was only a little pricier but I was able to select my own two choices instead of having the preset choices. The kid's meal was $4.25 and did not include the beverage. The desserts were very fairly priced. The fried ice cream, which was big enough for two to share, was priced at $3.95 and the churros were also $3.95.

I would definitely come back to this restaurant, but at the same time, I would not order what I had on this past visit.

Pancho Villa is a family owned and operated Mexican restaurant chain in the Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Culpepper area. The restaurants are owned and operated by the Pacheco Family. According to their website the family moved to Virginia from Southern California but their origin is from Jalisco, Mexico.

This review was based on the Pancho Villa located at 2931 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia. (Located in Central Park.) You can contact the restaurant for further information by calling (540) 548-4550.
