Why I'm Happy I Decided to Have Pregnancy Pictures Taken
After Fertility Treatments, Pregnancy Pictures Captured My Joy
My big reason for contemplating these pictures were because it had taken me and my husband years to get pregnant. I had problems with fertility, and had to have fertility treatments for a couple years before I was blessed with the pregnancy of my daughter. Not knowing if we wanted to have another baby in the future, I didn't want to back out of capturing my pregnancy when I didn't know if I would ever give birth to another child.
I looked for photographers in my area, and booked a photographer that specialized in pregnancy portraits. She suggested that I make an appointment to see her when I was around 8 months into my pregnancy. The bigger, the better, so to speak. She gave suggestions about wearing neutral clothing. Wearing jewelry that could compliment my features, and to try to wear loose clothing before the session so my skin wouldn't show marks from the waistband of my pants around my tummy.
Although I was nervous to pose for her, she put me at ease. My photographer was a mother of three girls, and was very familiar with the joys and pains of pregnancy. She came up with wonderful ideas for the photographs. One of my favorites was a picture that she created by having me hold my babies name in front of my belly in baby blocks. It turned out wonderfully!
I couldn't wait to see the photographs, and when they came it reconfirmed why I decided to have the pictures taken in the first place. Having a baby is a miracle of life. To be able to capture a mother that is pregnant with her child is such a beautiful miracle. It's a celebration. I was so thrilled with one of the pictures that I ordered a poster size print and have hung it in my bedroom to remind me of the love I have for my baby.
If you are considering having your pictures, I urge you to try. Even if you feel awkward, you will treasure the pictures for the rest of your life.
