Why I'm Voting for Tim Urban

Just Doing My Part to Bring an End to American Idol

Debbie Henthorn
I've never been a huge fan of American Idol. I've watched it occasionally through the years and have enjoyed some of the contestants. This year, I've found it a challenge to watch American Idol with any regularity. If I hadn't decided to join ranks with VotefortheWorst.com and vote for Tim Urban, I don't think I would follow the show at all.

It's not that the contestants don't have any singing talent - the AI Season 9 cast has decent singing voices. It's the entertainment value that's lacking. The characters have been cast with one producer's pick - Crystal Bowersox - and a bunch of not-quite-the-same-level cannon fodder rounding out the team.

The media didn't convince me that Crystal Bowersox is talented - she did. I live in Ohio and know as well as she does that the northwest corner of the state is not the Musical Mecca of the Midwest. The exposure she has received thanks to American Idol will do great things for her career and now that Crystal has been able to get her name and style out there, she would do well to be voted off before the finals.

Bowersox's style isn't suited to the Auto-Tune crap displayed by the "biggest artists of the year" that have been paraded across the AI stage this season. Viewers have been forced to suffer Lady Gaga wanna-be Ke$ha and Kara DioGuardi's Michael Jackson-impersonator Jason Derulo as 19 Entertainment shows America what type of artist they want to create. Crystal needs a record company that will permit her to do her own type of thing.

So, I am voting for Tim Urban. I am voting for Tim Urban a lot.

VotefortheWorst isn't about making fun of a cast member and declaring them to have the worst voice. Anyone who has heard Urban's karaoke version of "Hallelujah" would agree that he has a nice singing voice. VFTW realized American Idol has selected their "next big thing" before the first audition show has even aired. Viewers watch the drama as true contestants pour out their souls to the demons at 19 Entertainment hoping for a chance to make their dreams come true. The producers fill the cast with the appropriate amount of stereotypes and we have "the best singers out of thousands of auditions".

Bull.

Tim Urban thought he reached the end of the road when he didn't make the final 24, but was recalled as filler when Chris Golightly was disqualified. Obviously, the AI powers that be didn't want him in the first place and Tim nearly blew it with his first semi-finals performance. The guy was scared, didn't have nearly enough time to practice and it showed. VFTW backed him from the first night of the semi-finals and they haven't slowed down.

Tim Urban is not the most talented member of the American Idol Season 9 cast, but I'm voting for him. I'm voting for Tim Urban to become the next American Idol because AI is so blatantly insulting the intelligence of their viewers.

I'm now a proud member of VotefortheWorst and doing my part to end the farce that is American Idol.

I never vote, period! Well, I might vote if my favorite makes it to the finale, but that rarely happens.

I'm getting burnt out on American Idol. Crystal and Casey will probably be the runnerups and it feels like waiting at the doctor's office every time I watch it.

I absolutely loved your article Debbie!!! Well done. Yes, I agreed with everything you wrote. I'm also a Worster and love their support for Tim Urban. Thank you for a superb article on the sham that is American Idol.

I have never voted for anyone that VFTW endorsed before season 9, but I am now voting for TIM! It's not because he is the worst singer left, but because he is the most entertaining. I really thought he was a goner after singing Apologize, but he bounced back pretty well. He's humble and he knows his limitations (no more falsetto in his songs). I don't think he SHOULD win, but I want him to outlast many others. VOTE FOR TIM!!!
