Why Internet Connectivity is the New iPad's Biggest Drawbacks

Connecting to the Internet Might Be the Worse Thing About the iPad 2

Millionaire Hoy
The iPad 2 is set to be the "go-to" tablet of 2011, but although it's sure to beat the multitude of Android tablets on the market, the iPad 2 has a very weak spot: internet connectivity. Following is why.

The Safari Browser

Safari is the premier browser on the Apple iPad, and as the browser that most people will use to access the internet on while using the iPad, Safari comes leaves way too much to be desired. Safari lacks Adobe Flash support, doesn't allow plug-ins or add-ons, has been known to crash quite often, and has annoying features like reloading a web page whenever you switch tabs and working poorly with input boxes, drop down lists, and radio buttons.

WiFi or 3G

Before you ever use an iPad 2, you'll be forced to make a decision about how you'll want to access the internet that'll haunt your iPad forever; WiFi or 3G. Most tablets on the market are universal and offer WiFi, but allow activating a 3G or 4G internet service plan later on, but when purchasing an iPad, you'll be forced to pay an additional $129 to have a 3G compatible tablet - not including the monthly bill that you'll have to pay as well.

Verizon or AT&T

With the iPad 2, you'll have the option to choose either AT&T or Verizon as your 3G Internet provider - but your iPad 2 3G will only be able to support one of the two 3G internet service providers; not both. Forcing iPad 2 owners to be bound to AT&T or Verizon at the point of sale is sure to lead to quite a bit of buyer's remorse and if you want to change your provider from AT&T to Verizon [and vice versa], you'll be forced buy a new iPad 2.

No 4G Internet Options

If you've been reading closely, you've probably noticed that I've constantly referred to the iPad 2's 3G service, and that's because that's all the iPad 2 offers - there's no 4G options. Most modern tablets allow 4G internet service options and the lack of 4G means that us Apple tablet fans will have to suffer through an entire generation with inferior internet options than most "Droid" users.
