The stock market drops and failures scare most people tremendously, because they see it as a sinkhole for their money. The reality though, is that this can be one of the most exciting times to start investing in a variety of ways. Everything is on sale, in fact it's all extremely cheap and easy to buy. It's not often we get the chance for bargain stock market prices like this, so we should take advantage of them while we can.
Being able to pick up stocks extremely cheap is an excellent reason to start investing, but we'll also be able to see which companies are strong enough to survive this is economic crisis. Any companies which are able to survive during such major financial problems around the world is a pretty good bet to invest in for the long haul.
Stock market investing can be risky though, so if you're worried or afraid of risking too much of your personal money, you might want to try sticking with investing in mutual funds instead. When you invest in a mutual fund you're putting your money together with money from many other people, and you're letting that pooled money be managed by people who are actually experts in the stock market. Mutual funds can still be risky of course, and they can also be volatile because of the stock market itself, but there are many ways you can invest in mutual funds which are much less risky.
Mutual funds tend to be very easy investments to get started with, and sometimes you don't even need much cash to get it going. Be sure to keep some of your cash on hand in a standard Bank account of course, so you have it in case of emergencies. Try to put as much extra cash as you can into mutual funds or other investments though.
Another excellent way to invest your money right now is through real estate, because of the same reasons noted above about the stock market. Everything is on sale. There are actually a record number of bank foreclosures happening, and this has caused real estate prices to bottom out. As an investor you can get some of the greatest deals of your lifetime right now.
