Why the iPad 2 is Only a Minor Improvement for iPad 1 Owners

The IPad 2 is Only Slightly Better Than the Original

I bought both versions of the iPad on launch day and I've got to say, my mind was way more blown with the original version than it was with the iPad 2 and following is why the iPad 2 is only a slight improvement for original iPad Owners.

The Hardware Doesn't Really Matter... Yet

The iPad 2 has twice the RAM, twice the Processing power, and nine times the graphics speed of its predecessor, but none of those improvements mean anything yet. Buffing a gadgets hardware is only important if the software that's available is able to take advantage of it - and so far, most apps on the iPad 2 run just the same as they did on the original. I'm sure that more processor and graphic intensive apps are bound to hit the iTunes Store sooner or later - but as of right now [and in the near future] most iPad 2 apps are actually the same apps that were used on the first version - and all of the supped of features of Apple's new tablet means "diddly squat".

The Camera is Way Over Rated

One of the main new features that made me say "I've gotta sell my old iPad immediately to make room for the iPad 2" was the all-new front and back facing cameras of Apple's new tablet. While it's great to finally have a camera on the iPad, I'm really underwhelmed by the quality of the cameras that were added. Honestly, the front facing cameras works just as good as one of the first digital cameras that I owned 10 years ago and the back facing camera isn't all that much to "ride home about" either. Don't get me wrong, the new cameras work just fine when video chatting on Facetime, but you'll be better off with a digital camera and an Apple Camera Connection Kit for most tasks.

The Other Features Are Non-Factors

In addition to the new cameras and updated graphics and CPU, the iPad 2 also offers updated speakers, a thinner and lighter design, now comes in white, and a handful of other features that are pretty much "yawn-worthy". If you own or have already get rid of your first generation iPad for the iPad 2, most of the new iPad 2 features are non-essential features that really didn't solve most of the problems of the original version - problems like the lack of Adobe Flash support, no SD, Firewire, or USB ports, or Retina Display.
