Why the iPad 2's Smart Cover Has the Original iPad Case Beat
Why the iPad 2's Smart Cover is Better Than the Original iPad Case
It's Made Way Better
The original iPad Case was great... for the first few days, but after that it became very evident how all too easy the original case was to stain. Water, dirt, fingerprints, water, dust, lint, and water [did I mention water] were the arch nemeses of the original iPad Case and you were bound to stain it on a daily basis. The new Smart Cover, on the other hand, comes in both leather and polyurethane, and is resistant to stains, is easier to clean, and has an overall better look and feel than its predecessor.
It's a Way Better Stand
The original case for the iPad worked perfectly as a dock when it was lying flat, but if you tried to dock it horizontally upright, it was inevitable that it would fall flat on its face [display] making a loud clapping sound and making you soil yourself as you imagine your iPad being smash to pieces. Fortunately, I never destroyed my original iPad using its case, but the Smart Cover works a lot better as a dock as it magnetically coils into a dock that works great in typing mode or as a great upright stand - that won't try to damage your display.
More Colors FTW
The first case came in only one flavor, black, but Apple's Smart Cover comes in 10 different colors - cream, navy, tan, black, orange, green, gray, blue, pink, and red - and is great for Apple tablet owners that won't to display their own personal style instead of walking around with the same exact case as everyone else.
It Packs Way Better Perks
Not only does the Apple Smart Cover serves of the purpose of a screen protector, dock, and comes in multiple colors, it's also way "smarter" than its predecessor. The Smart Cover is magnetic and automatically aligns to your iPad 2 - making it easy to easily attach and detach the Smart Cover - and it as the ability to put your iPad 2 in sleep mode when its covered and automatically wakes it up when it's uncovered - which helps to preserve your battery life for as long as possible.
