Why the iPad Makes Me Want to Throw My Kindle in the Garbage

The iPad andiIBooks Make Me Hate My Amazon Kindle

Millionaire Hoy
Oh, iPad. Why must you make me hate my Kindle reader so much? I loved my Kindle before you showed up with your iBooks and other quadrillion features. Now that I've seen you, I want to divorce my Kindle to be with you - and here's why.

Performance

I've had my Kindle for a long time now, and while I've been satisfied with the Kindle's performance (somewhat) I can't help but feel a bit of buyer's remorse after seeing what the Apple iPad can do. The e-ink display of the Kindle makes it a bit of a laggy response time bugger when compared to the smooth and fast performing Apple iPad. The iPad runs on a 1GHz Apple A4 processor and the iPad's LCD display doesn't cripple the iPad's response time like the limited e-ink Technology of the Amazon Kindle.

Look and Feel

Black and white (more like gray and gray) text on the Amazon Kindle was all I needed before Apple announced the Apple iPad back in January, but now that I've seen the "purdy" color (color, finally!) display and Liquid Crystal Display of the Apple iPad and how it works with iBooks, I just can't look at my Amazon Kindle without resenting it for looking like a device made in the 1920s. In addition to the stylish interface of iBooks (that mocks my Amazon Kindle), the iPad does without an ugly (and somewhat in the way) QWERTY keypad that the Amazon Kindle glued right to the front of its display.

More than Just iBooks

The iBooks ebook reader app on the iPad would put the Amazon Kindle to rest all by itself, but the really sad part about the whole iPad vs. Kindle feud is that iBooks isn't even the best app on the Apple iPad. The iPad features games, movies, internet browsing, music and more in addition to its iBooks app. The Apple iPad took tablet devices beyond being a single purpose device like the Amazon Kindle and comes ready to handle a slew of functions.

Kindle on the iPad?

Oh, my weeping gold fish! Apple really wants me to hate ever buying an Amazon Kindle. Not only will the iPad run smoother, look better, and do more than my Amazon Kindle, it'll also do the Kindle on the iPad. Kindle isn't just a ebook reading device, it's also an ebook reader platform that can be used on multiple devices like PC and Mac computers, and now the Amazon Kindle will be featured on the Apple iPad. Apple has reduced a device that I've paid several hundred dollars for into a frickin' app on it's iPad. That's it. The Kindle is headed right for the garbage (sike, it's on its way to eBay or Craigslist lol).

This was great. I don't own either, but I will definately a closer look at the Apple iPad before before buying a Kindle (one of these days, lol).

Interesting. I don't really want an ereader. I prefer to have a real book in my hands, but I'll remember that the iPad is better than a Kindle if I change my mind.

okay you made me drool over the iPad a bit and I have been vehemently against something named after a female hygiene product! I don't have a kindle either because there is just something special about holding a hard cover book in my hands ;)

This was great. My favorite line: "Apple has reduced a device that I've paid several hundred dollars for into a frickin' app on it's iPad."

I'm not sure, the new interactive iBooks are pretty awesome. If iBooks can emulate the smell of a new book, I'll never pick up a real book again.

Nice article. But there is nothing better than having an actual book in your hands.

Congrats on being on the front page! Like you, I think my Kindle might be obsolete but since I mainly use it for reading, I actually prefer the black and white and would find the different colors too distracting. At least, that is what I say to myself...but you make the iPad seem very appealing!
