Why It's Not Your Business Who Chelsea Clinton Invites to Her 'Secret Wedding'

Why Does the News Media Think They Have a Right to Say Who Chelsea Clinton Should and Shouldn't Invite to Her Wedding?

Cassandra James
Since Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, announced her engagement last year to Marc Mezvinsky, the news media has gone wild. With outrageous stories about her soon-to-be-in-laws, lies about Bill and Hillary and her fiance and shallow talk about Chelsea's engagement ring, this week the news media has hit an all-time low. Now, according to several sources, not only does the news media seem to think it's their god-given right to tell Chelsea Clinton who she should invite to her wedding, they're now making fun of her refusing to invite 'strangers' to her special day. Now, really, would the reporter please step forward who had boatloads of people they didn't know at their own wedding and enjoyed it?

As the news media infiltrates the daily lives and personal decisions of public figures, it's absolutely ridiculous they now think making statements about Chelsea Clinton's guest list is appropriate. According to several news sources, Chelsea Clinton and her fiance, Marc Mezvinsky, decided they don't want strangers - or celebrities they don't know - to their wedding. What the heck is wrong with that?

A wedding is a personal affair. It's a time when a man and a woman declare their love for each other and promise to love and support each other for the rest of their lives. It's not a time for even people who are connected to the marrying couple to say who should be invited so the parents can get the most political or business gain. So it sure as heck isn't a time for 'Jane The Idiot Columnist' to whine about why Chelsea Clinton's wedding is being planned in secret and ask why Chelsea isn't inviting celebrities.

As a spokesperson for the Clinton family has said several times, only close friends and relatives of the Clintons and the Mezvinskys will be invited. Sure, some donors to Bill and Hillary's campaigns as well as some who donated to campaigns the Mezvinskys were involved in will be on the guest list. But, why is that surprising? After all, if your own close personal friends won't donate to your political campaign, who will?

With more and more of celebrities' and public figures' lives being invaded by nosy news media, many of us are sick of it. It's not too much to ask that Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky are left alone to enjoy their wedding in peace. Why do you think the Clintons and Mezvinskys are keeping the wedding location so secret; only telling wedding guests where it will be held the week before? Obviously, they don't want morons, like half of today's news media seem to be, invading what is hopefully one of the happiest days in their son and daughter's lives.

Butt out. It really doesn't concern you.
