Why John McCain & Sarah Palin Lost This Election

My Top 10 Reasons Why!

Rose Richmond
Now that the election is over with, the pundits and the news station are doing there regular analysis of why this or that happened. In the conversations, they list different reasons why they thought John McCain and Sarah Palin lost.

Among the most commented reason is the amount of money Barack Obama's campaign raised. Although John McCain feels slighted because Obama didn't want to take Federal Funds, the truth is John McCain had links on his website that allowed people to contribute. Obviously he didn't get the same support as Obama. People didn't really like him from the beginning, ya think?

The money Obama raised is a contributing factor, but truth be known, that isn't the main reason he won. Here is my humble opinion of why John McCain and Sarah Palin lost this 2008 election:

1. From the beginning, John McCain left his roots of being devoted to the American People. As quickly as he was nominated, he went into crazy mode. He became someone that most Republicans did not recognize. He said things that were mean spirited and he spent most of his time talking about being a POW.

2. Sarah Palin. This was probably the biggest mistake John McCain made in this entire thing. He was listening to advisers or maybe not. He decided to pick a complete unknown to be his running mate. Not only was she unknown, but she was female. This action was taken in hopes of luring the female vote from Independents and Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton. Sarah Palin was beautiful and seemed to be smart. However, when she opened her mouth, it all changed. She was ignorant of historical facts, lacking in knowledge of even the most basic of foreign policy issues, and she came across as overbearing, cocky and unmanageable.

3. The Maverick Strategy-No sooner than Sarah Palin got picked, the MAVERICK issue started. Her and John were going to clean up Washington. They were going to tear down and clean up the corruption, the Good Ole Boys, and Government in general. We went through the "Hockey Mom" syndrome, the "Lipstick on A Pig" argument and the "Troopergate" situation all crammed into the first few weeks.

The Tina Fey effect was probably the biggest contribution to Sarah's demise. When America realized that SNL didn't even have to make up a script because Sarah was so far out in left field, it was over. She had quickly become a joke, except to the hard core, no change Republicans and misinformed women who were hanging on for dear life, hoping she would pan out. It only got worse.

4. The Terrorist/ William Ayers Strategy-This issue created a monster. John McCain and Sarah Palin repeated at every campaign stop that Barack was palling around with terrorist, William Ayers. It was pounded and pounded into the dialogue on every turn. They appeared not to realize the impact of a black man being linked to a supposed terrorist, after 9-11. This subject exploded across the country. The skinheads and all of the other white racist groups latched onto this bone and showed up at rally after rally screaming "Kill the terrorist"! Children were spat on and called names, threats were made.

America played it over and over on You Tube and others. Yet John McCain and Sarah Palin stood and told news anchor after news anchor that it wasn't happening or they didn't hear it, or like the Arab question, they addressed it. No, they never did. I will forever believe the Arab question was a plant to show they were doing something. Yet even as America heard time and again, the vulgar, mean things being said, supposedly John nor Sarah heard anything. Yet if anyone even whispered a crack about her, she commented how she was proud of her son for fighting for that persons right to protest. America saw at that point that they were willing to sacrifice some Americans for what they wanted. It did not sit well with America. With the internet playing such a huge role in this election, people did their research and realized the McCain campaign was not only exaggerating the truth, they were outright lying to make it sound worse. America was much more informed this time around.

5.Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh- I am not a famous journalist or tv personality, however I know when people who do have those titles, often go off the deep end when they are as biased and conservative as these three. I believe though that the news coverage provided by these three people made as much difference in McCain losing, as any other reason. All of these news and radio personalities have taken their extreme, radical beliefs that have always kept them on the fringe of the mainstream news, and used it to destroy the Republican Party. What is truly crazy, they supported McCain. These three alone because of hate mongering and lies, stirred up the people in this country that are not extreme radicals and they stood up and said, "ENOUGH"!

Sean Hannity's insistence to prove Barack could be a potential terrorist or his so called socialism policies, resulted in him being made a fool of. Andy Martin, who he touted as honest and always right, with no chance of him being wrong, turned out to be the biggest phony of the year. He lied about Obama and the Muslim issue. He made Obama out to be horrible and yet the idiot sold a book. Sean Hannity proved in this election, he is too radical to be fair. All of that "fair and balanced" bull Fox News says they are, is all crap. They are & he is as radical as it gets to the right. His career reflects that fact. He has been kicked off of, or moved from all of his previous news positions, until FOX. It has been proven in this election just how low he is willing to go. He should accept as much blame as McCain for this loss.

Ann Coulter is yet another thorn in McCain's side. I am not sure how this clown continues to be on TV. I wonder if any other programs have Ann on their show. I don't think I have ever seen her anywhere but FOX. Either O'Reilly or Hannity. Another news anchor who has been kicked off or out of jobs, dropped out of college, has been reprimanded for her mouth, yet she keeps on showing up, like a bad penny. I am not sure how, in this day and time, she has written and actually sold 6 books. She is as arrogant and as ignorant and self righteous as Hannity. Yet she is so insecure, it is funny. You can see her bad attitude showing on every appearance. Both her and Hannity went so far as to insist they were right, even in the face of violence erupting on the campaign trail. She in my opinion is a irresponsible journalist or whatever her title is.

Rush Limbaugh is another big reason Barack won this race. Rush Limbaugh has always, as I long as I can remember, had more mouth than brains. This election proved that once again. Not too many years since coming out of rehab for prescription drugs, this guy just don't know when to shut up. I think he probably enjoys hearing himself talk. His racists and negative commentaries turned Republican after Republican to Obama. Thank you Rush.

6. George Bush-We know that a bad sitting party always has a tough time in an election. That is always an uphill fight. However this election, it was more relevant than ever before. With John McCain supporting Bush so much in the past, and with Iraq and the Economy kicking us everyday, this may be as much to blame as anything.

7. Real America-Pro America-When Sarah Palin came out and talked about "Real America" and "Real Americans", this was one of the final nails in the coffin of fate. She divided America and spit in our face. If the terror issue had not already divided us, telling us that some parts of America were more American than others was the ultimate insult. Republicans, Democrats and Independents shuttered when she said it. Then to add insult to injury Nancy Pfotenhauer echoed those comments talking about Northern Virginia. Supposedly, distinguished Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann alerted us to potential Un American activities in the Congress. She called for a media investigation to determine who was Pro America or who wasn't.

8. Joe The Plumber- The only benefactor of this strategy was Joe Wurzelbacher. He may have landed a book deal and other perks. He may even run for office. Now that is a laugh. A man who we found out quickly, was in debt to the IRS, didn't really have a business, nor could he be actually planning a purchase anytime soon and he didn't even have a Plumber's license. Was he a plant? Either way, this avenue was the icing on the cake of disaster. Joe the Plumber made the McCain campaign look very desperate and very ignorant. All America could see that Joe was a farce. Yet McCain kept pounding away at the lie.

9.The closer to the finish we got, the dirtier the politics from McCain. Yet Barack Obama stayed focused and stayed on the message he started 2 years ago. He never got down in the ditch with McCain, unless McCain instigated the first strike. The "Lipstick on A Pig" remark had to be answered as well as some of the others. John McCain used minor things to pick a fight. When Barack came back with a rebuttle, McCain got upset and called "foul". Barack used a steady hand throughout the entire campaign. He did get rattled or upset. He was as cool as a cucumber for this entire battle, yet he fought back and he prevailed.

10. To me the biggest reason John McCain lost was his lack of answers. He spent so much time attacking Obama that even if he had a plan to put America back to a positive status, he didn't tell us until just a few days before any details. He gave us generalities and suppositions, but no real plan. Americans are struggling and need to hear answers, not vicious attacks formed from exaggerated lies.

This election was historic and exciting. It was fierce and nasty. John McCain lost track of who he may have been at some point. He allowed the Good Ole Boys too continue to direct him and take him way off course. His campaign tactics backfired on him and Sarah Palin. From beginning to end, this campaign for them was a Comedy of Errors. It was an ill fated venture from the start. Throughout the process, it became a hopeless situation. Republicans jumped ship faster than people getting off of the Titantic.

In this new age of the internet and access to so much information, campaigns will never be the same. Candidates will have to prove what they say or shut up. John McCain would have been well advised to do the latter. This election was lost because of bad judgment and hypocrisy in a time when America refused to be treated so disrespectfully. Those that followed anyway will over time realize how wrong and hypocritical they really were during this history making election.

The Electoral College Vote proved what America really thought and wanted. With a "landslide" victory of 364 votes to 173 votes after the final tally, America stood their ground to tell McCain Why he lost? God Bless Us.

Basically, John McCain sold out to win the nomination, and then made the WRONG gambles. For example, he gambled that "suspending his campaign" would look like leadership; it looked erratic. He did not gamble on opposing a bailout bill that is hated by just about everyone. Instead, he tried to claim credit for brokering it.

But how do you really feel? Clearly there is a lot of frustration still churning over how this campaign was waged - and you point to the right media sources as fueling fires of separation and hate. Most of us don't buy into it. Thank goodness. Maybe one of the firstthings we should do is force programs like Hannity's to list that they are 'entertainment' and do not contain facts. Too many Americans think if someone sits behind a 'news desk' that they are bound by slander laws. They are not.
