Why to Join a Fraternity?

Brock St. Penn
There are sometimes many negative reactions that go into high schoolers minds when the thought of fraternities and sororities come up. I for one hated the idea of ever joining a fraternity, thinking to myself that I didn't need to pay for friends and girls. After finally opening up to the idea, and seeing some of my friends thrive after joining Greek Life, I took the plunge and haven't looked back.

Greek Life is different in all schools but there are fraternities that cater to different types of people, so everyone has a place. Many people are worried about the pledge process, but in reality that time helps you form life long relationships with your pledge brothers. You go through the same things as a group, and go through things that your pledge class will remember forever. The benefits of joining a fraternity go beyond just a group of guys. There are many opportunities that one can take advantage of. The network of people you will meet by joining a fraternity is limitless. This network can lead to internships, job offers, more friendships, and just gives you an edge on the competition because who you know is extremely important.

The main reason to join a fraternity for a large part of the population is because of the social life. Being in a fraternity gives you many more options socially, then those get who aren't a part of Greek Life. Whether it's a party, a pre-game, a tournament, a dance, a vacation, and many more, there is always something fun going on. After being initiated, one can take as much of a role in the fraternity as they please. How dedicated you are to the brotherhood is up to you and it is what you make of it.

Being in a fraternity also forces you to do good for others and the community. The community service done by fraternities and sororities contribute millions of dollars a year to numerous charities and foundations across the globe. Not only that but the average GPA of students in Greek Life is strikingly similar to the GPA of students who aren't Greek. All in all there are so many benefits of joining a fraternity that it is a must for any college student.
