Why Keeping it Cleaner is Being Greener
Keeping Your Home Clean and Tidy Can Actually Save You Money While Helping the Environment
You may be wondering how this relates to keeping your home clean. It's quite simple; maintaining your home by cleaning it will save you in energy costs and premature appliance or device failure. For example, if you have base board heat in your home you know that the heating elements tend to get mucked up with dust and other particles. When the heat dissipation fins of the base board heater are covered in dirt, the heater cannot do its job as efficiently as it is designed to. Cleaning the heating element fins will allow your baseboard heaters dissipate the heat correctly, safely and most importantly without having to turn the thermostat dial up when you don't have to.
You can take the above example and apply it to any appliance or gadget you own. Another great example would be washing your windows. If you open up the curtains or blinds to let a little sun into your home, you can use a little less heating energy throughout the day because of the suns natural rays coming into and helping aid to the warmth of your home. If your windows or skylights are filthy dirty, the amount of light that comes through will be limited and diffused by the dirt and grime that accumulates both inside and outside of your windows.
The better you take care of your possessions, the longer they will last. This means there will be less junk of yours going into the landfill over the course of your life. You will save a significant amount of money by maintaining what you have in terms of operating and purchasing, not to mention doing your part to help with the environment. Always be aware of what you throw away, ask yourself if you could, or someone else good use the item. Get creative and reuse items like plastic cups from fast food restaurants or a cut open milk jug to use for spreading salt or seed.
Clean energy has many incentives, power from the wind and sun is one of the best ways to save money while living green as well as buying a fuel efficient vehicle. Even though it may be a considerable investment at first, these technologies have the potential to earn you money let alone keep money in your wallet.
