Why is Kelly Osbourne Considering Gastric Band Surgery?

Kelly Osbourne is considering getting gastric band (or lap band) surgery. But why is this young woman that wowed her fans with her amazing weight loss considering this drastic measure?

According to Pop Eater, a friend of Kelly Osbourne's has stated that she doesn't want the gastric band surgery to lose a lot of weight, but to maintain the figure she has. Evidently putting on a few pounds during vacation has made the "Fashion Police" host fear that her weight will balloon up, and she doesn't want to take any chances.
It probably also doesn't help that Kelly Osbourne is the face (and body) of Madonna's Material Girl fashion line and that she spends so much time looking at photos of stick-thin starlets alongside a very critical, surgically-enhanced Joan Rivers on her E! show.

Kelly's mother Sharon went through the gastric band surgery, but her weight loss was a substantial 100 pounds. It seems that Kelly just wants to lose a few vanity pounds right now, so the lap band route seems like too much of a risk (basically her slight gain/maintaining where she is at is nothing that a little exercise and healthy dieting won't take care of).

Kelly has admitted that she's let media scrutiny get to her in the past, so it's very sad if the pressure to get thinner fast is pushing her toward the lap band surgery, especially with the dangers involved.

It might seem like a "magic bullet" when it comes to weight loss, but, as with any surgery, being cut open to have a band fitted around her stomach comes with its fair share of risks. According to an Australian Broadcasting Corporation report, one in every 1,500 to 2,000 lap band patients die from complications after surgery, while just over three quarters of them can experience other complications including acid reflux, digestive disease, vomiting, or even esophageal cancer.

So if Kelly Osbourne is really considering this surgery that's probably best reserved as a last resort, hopefully she takes a look at her other options first -- she's way too young, successful, and capable of working hard to throw it all away over something she obviously doesn't need.
