Number Two: There is toilet paper inventory to be done. Somewhere in your house there is an empty toilet paper holder. Somewhere in your house there is a bathroom cabinet with less than two back up rolls. Give your kids an official Toilet Paper Inventory clipboard and send them off to fill holders and redistribute supplies. Let them know this is very important paperwork.
Number Three: The bottoms of all of your chairs need to be dusted. Really, when was the last time that you dusted the bottoms of your chairs? Kids are just the right height for this neglected job. Many you don't really even want your kids to move all of your precious do-dads to dust the tops of furniture but why not have the dust the fronts and sides? It will mean less bending over for you if, I mean when, you get around to dusting.
Number Four: I have this image of my grandmother taking her rugs outside and beating them regularly. While I do try to pick up lumps of crab or rotting fruit off of my rugs, I can't say that I beat my rugs regularly, or even monthly. Let's be honest; annually. Kids love to beat things. Send them outside with rugs and wooden spoons and let them whack away. One tip: Don't give them the rugs and wooden spoons until they are outside. This boredom buster is so exciting they may start it in the kitchen otherwise.
Number Five: Your sink stopper uppers are gross. I mean really gross! And kids love gross. Give them a bucket of water (outside) and let them go pull all of the sink stopper uppers out and scrub them with old toothbrushes. You'll want to emphasize the "old" part. Offer a bonus if they can then remember where each one came from and successfully reinstall it.
The next time your kids moan about being bored, let them know there is mining, inventorying, dusting, beating and scrubbing to be done! Someone once said that idle hands do the devil's work. Let's have them do the housework instead.

love it! excellent read!
Cute ideas! :)
Great info! I hear this often - but my five year old has already figured out that chores are most often the result of saying "I'm bored!" - Another favorite - clean out toy boxes. If they are bored with their toys, then there must be some that can be given to a kid that will enjoy them!
LOL My kids will never be bored now. LOL at Bobbi also. :-)
Great tips! We live in the Hill Country and are rock growers. Our yard is literally littered with rocks (some are like boulders). When our teen says she's bored we tell her, "go pick up rocks and throw them down the hill." She shuts up pretty quick about being bored.
Good ideas to keep kids busy and helping around the house.
I can relate! Great info.
