Why is Killzone 2 Multiplayer Unpopluar?

Otter
Killzone 2 has one of the best multiplayer modes in gaming currently. Even though hundreds of thousands of gamers play the game, this Playstation 3 title isn't as popular as it should be. Not to mention that the amount of active players is rapidly decreasing with each passing week. So why aren't gamers playing Killzone 2's multiplayer? Let's take a look at several factors.

Basic Weapons System

Weaponry plays a huge role to the success of first-person shooters. Unfortunately, Killzone 2 has only a handful of memorable guns. You get the standard set of handgun, semi-automatic rifle, sniper rifle, machine gun, shotgun, grenade launcher and rocket launcher. Nothing really stands out as unique about these types of weapons in Killzone 2. To further add to this predicament, you can't customize your weapons like you can in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Unbalance Class System

The deep class system in Killzone 2 is what separates it from others in the same genre. However, this also led to the unbalance nature of the multiplayer mode. In order to unlock specialized classes, you need to play the game for hours. Not to mention that the later classes (especially the assault class) are way overpowered compared to the first unlockable classes. Beginners will have a hard time adapting to Killzone 2 while veterans may get bored quickly.

Stiff Competition

The first-person shooting genre is more crowded than ever before. Unlike previous titles in the genre, Killzone 2 had to compete against Halo 3, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War and Resistance 2. It also doesn't help that Killzone 2 doesn't really offer anything new that distinguish it from the core gameplay elements of other first-person shooters. Therefore, it may have been lost in the shuffle.

Lack of Legacy

Unlike the aforementioned titles, Killzone 2 lacked a great legacy. The original Killzone 2 was mediocre while Killzone: Liberation on the PSP was ignored by consumers. The Killzone franchise isn't as well-received as compared to Halo, Call of Duty and Resistance. Because of these factors, many prospective buyers are a bit hesitant at picking up Killzone 2 until good word of mouth comes around.

Recession

Finally, the recession somewhat hindered the popularity of Killzone 2. Many prospective buyers have a hard time justifying on buying a $60 video game for a $400 video game system. As good as Killzone 2 is, it is a tough sell for many non-Playstation 3 owners. Therefore, the sales potential for Killzone 2 isn't as great as it should be thanks to the current economic situation.

The author needs to at this post:

    http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=killzone2&message.id=299124#M299124

Obviously, this is another author that doesn't know how to write an unbiased down to earth review, but only hype over things that they want and anything that doesn't have what they want, they put it down; lack of understanding.

Not even the retarded author can deny that Killzone 2 is one of the best games of this generation. He's probably just some jealous asshole.

And Killzone 2 is popular. Ever tried looking into the community? -.-

they need to dimm down the recoil though its realy over kill.
ive used assult rifels before and yes they can fly back a little but not that bad.
seriously you could have some one 100CM away from you aim at there legs hold fire for like 2 seconds and the retecule has gone from there feet to past there head.
use the LMG its EVEN WORSE you have to do single shots with that its insane almost imposiable to kill anyone with it this is why you see 90% of people using shotguns.
and 2 they need to fix the hit detection you can shoot someone in the head their head will tilt back than you can turn a corner or whatever than about 10 seconds later you get the point and it comes up on the left hand of the screen its SO ANNOYING i bet you 70% of my deaths are because of this i pop some one in the head and instead of instently dieing they pop me in the head to so both of us die.
i can run past a sniper be hideing behind a cement wall but i got my head blown off by that sniper even though im hidei

Although it's info to me, this doesn't affect me as a Killzone 2 gamer much. It's a good point, and (thankfully) its not enough for the fanboys to shout "nay". You're absolutely right, but I'm gonna keep playing .
